  • The monument is not something to be worth it to go only to see it (mas alla that male is a small island), it is cute but not worth the trip it. Male is not an island with much to see rather than motorcycles and chaos in the traffic

  • It is a tower commemorating the 2004 Sumatra earthquake tsunami. On the South side of the island from East to West 2 place 1. I saw only when travelling to viringili Island Ferry Terminal next to the tower. May I go did look rather than walking into the eyes. We had the Tower next to the ferry terminal area is maintained as a park.

  • Cute monument. Located next to the port. Strongly contrasts with the rubbish on the streets of the city. A bright spot in Malé.

  • I saw the monument while travelling from Villingili to Male. Those snapshots were taken from the ferry. Nice artistic monument. Beautiful colours of this monument can only be seen at night.
  • The Tsunami Monument is located on the south eastern part of Male city, on the Boduthakurufaanu Magu. This Tsunami Monument was dedicated for those who lost their lives in the boxing day 2004 Tsunami, originated from Aceh, Indonesia. The sea surrounding of this monument is one of best spot for surfing within Male. The monument is famous not only for its history but also for its uniqueness architecture. The design of the memorial represents different aspects of the 2004 Tsunami in the Maldives which made a lot of Maldivian died; many houses, buildings and businesses were destroyed in that year.
  • Very near to Villingili Ferry Terminal..... Well maintained.
  • The Tsunami monument was constructed as a memorial to the Maldivian lives lost, during the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami by former President, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom in 2005.
  • Beautiful colors awesome view n so very peaceful

Where to stay in Male

Due to the city's dense population, you may be hard-pressed to find spacious accommodations at any time of year in Male. If you're here in transit to one of the surrounding resorts, you may not be able to avoid Male's high prices, as transfers to the islands are generally only possible during daylight hours. The rooms in the hotels, bed and breakfasts, and guesthouses of Male are on the whole clean, if basic. For more affordable options head to the nearby isle of Hulhumale: a ten-minute boat ride away, this spot proves popular with backpackers.
