See the skeleton of a rare Longman's beaked whale at National Museum, established to preserve the history of the Maldives. The 6 m (20 ft) whale skeleton headlines a collection of natural science and historical exhibits, which offer a broad insight into Maldivian culture. You can appreciate a range of Islamic artifacts, as well as early technology and utensils used by in the Maldives centuries ago. Tragically, many of the museum's pre-Islamic exhibits were destroyed in a 2012 attack, including an 11th-century bust of Buddha carved from coral. • They don't take cash here and their payment portal did not work for us (tried for two days) would have been nice to see the museum but they need a better payment system.

  • National museum is close to the royal palace. Downstairs is the galleries devoted to the ancient and medieval periods and upstairs is a display representing modern period of Maldives. Items display...

  • It's actually not a musium, but exposition of some, not that interesting subjects from late Maldivian rullers. There are also some post stamps and banknotes. Frankly a lost time, even though Male...

  • I'm very disappointed... Museum doesn't work on Saturdays at all, weird, usually museums work on weekends for people to see what's inside because that's usually when they have free time. Also, what kind of museum doesn't work after 4 o'clock? Even worse, I went to the museum at 15:32 and at the counter they said museum closes at 15:30 so I couldn't go in. Fix the google info at least! I rate this with 2 stars and not 1 just because I've not seen what's inside.
  • Went in search of Maldivian history, but felt as much as I got a lot of information but felt I left there with a lot of unanswered questions... but in all it was a nice place to visit
  • Nice showcase of Maldives history. Police museum is just great. Complete history of Maldives Police department shown on video screens. Museum fees is $6 per person and $1 for one device for photography. Good place to visit with kids. Got lots of information about Maldives after visiting National museum.
  • Museum is right in the middle of capital city. Place has some of the artifacts from a couple of centuries back, but most of the items are of pretty recent times, and are just ok to see Some of the fish skeletons are really interesting. Police museum is good.
  • Place where you find history of Maldives. The museum is all about Sultans of Maldives. I was charged 13 USD and 1 USD for photographs without flash. If you are in Male or Hulmale u can come n visit this place but not worth coming for museum only. I find it ok.
