Perhentian Islands, Terengganu
(4/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
Just off the coast of West Malaysia, Perhentian Islands offer access to sandy beaches, azure seas, and dense green jungles providing a home for many wild animals. Ideal for snorkelers, most of the islands' beaches feature shallow waters, frequented by cuttlefish, parrotfish, and rays. Scuba divers can take advantage of various reefs and wrecks, swarming with marine life. If you can bear to drag yourself away from your perfect spot on the sand, the islands' interiors provide jungle trekking, with monitor lizards, giant spiders, and the occasional monkey. Restaurants, bars, and resorts on the two main islands provide dining and entertainment. • Although the Perhentian Islands are today already very well attended and there are many hotels, but you will find more quiet places to enjoy this natural paradise. Very nice beaches, dense forests and a paradise under water. A highlight of any trip to Malaysia. It took us initially much time to decide on which island, we go. Doesn't matter but, as they are very close together and not even 5 minutes by taxi boat apart (from 5rm). But: I very much hope that the perpetrators, the residents, hotels and tour operators finally wake up and notice that they mess up because of greed and ignorance of their home or place of work. -Your reef is clearly dying, what is attributable to not only driving over with boats, but also the tourists. But it is your responsibility to educate and monitor, that animals not be touched, stood on the reef or parts should be taken, etc... - Eure Islands vermüllen increasingly. It makes you live fun in your trash? Take rather more entrance fees (5rm is not enough to make a difference!) and invest it sensibly. Such as training and education of staff and inhabitants, protected areas, etc.
