Perhentian Islands, Terengganu

(4/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
Just off the coast of West Malaysia, Perhentian Islands offer access to sandy beaches, azure seas, and dense green jungles providing a home for many wild animals. Ideal for snorkelers, most of the islands' beaches feature shallow waters, frequented by cuttlefish, parrotfish, and rays. Scuba divers can take advantage of various reefs and wrecks, swarming with marine life. If you can bear to drag yourself away from your perfect spot on the sand, the islands' interiors provide jungle trekking, with monitor lizards, giant spiders, and the occasional monkey. Restaurants, bars, and resorts on the two main islands provide dining and entertainment. • We arrived on the Perhentians from Kuala Besut after a long journey because we were off to visit the mosque before Crystal to Terengganu. From the port of Kuala Besut take a boat (about 45 min) that leads to these islands. We stayed at Abdul's cottage on Besar 5 days and we have not regretted because Kecil was more crowded with tourists and the beaches were not so beautiful that the pictures (of many motor boats as Long Beach, not very reassuring for children because sometimes they arrive at bottom). Besar was a quiet island where we enjoyed the pancakes and Strawberry Milkshakes feet in the sand with the call to prayer from the mosque in the background. Fabulous week despite an overcast Yes 2 days you can enjoy snorkeling.

  • C is a hassle to reach the island: we have to go to kota bahru bus or plane. Attention mini airport liaison with kuala lumpur and penang and 1 other place. So much thinking about the return. Then the airport should take a taxi to 88 rm to reach kuala besut: port of embarkation. It there is no bus. Kuala besut: very small nothing to do. The port is tiny, the boats not very safe... Attention off-season c is inaccessible because dangerous to make the crossing so before April ca useless d go. We lost 2 days, the hotel would have been a warning...
