Sandakan Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC), Sandakan
(4.3/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Visit a center of environmental education at Sandakan Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC). Starting off as an environmental school, the center opened its doors to the public in 2007, maintaining its focus on conservation and education while broadening its appeal to younger and amateur visitors. Enjoy a stroll through the plant identification garden to learn about the vegetation that thrives in the surrounding nature reserve. Take a trip up to the 25 m (82) ft high canopy walkway to gain a new perspective on an area of thick rainforest--great for photographs and bird-spotting, and secure enough for kindergarten-age children. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Sandakan holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Sandakan Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Huge range of trees and birds. The birds can be difficult to spot so you have to take your time and wait and be silent. The trails are good and extensive.
  • A good place to discover the rainforest in Sabah. you can go to there for jungle tracking, jogging, cycling , picnic. It is a green world for nature lover.

  • A great way to get up into the rainforest canopy. Lots of different trees and birds but we weren't lucky enough to see any mammals. Recommend entry at 430 and watch the sunset.
  • Amazing trails and the night walk is highly recommended.
  • Easily the second best canopy walk I've ever done. Was lucky enough to see a family of Orangutans in the trees while walking the trails. Good, but expensive!
  • Very nice botanical garden with a lot of interesting information. Park itself is beautiful. Towers and canopy walkway give you bird perspective. You can have rainforest feeling not far from Sandakan.
  • Top birding site around this area. With a sky bridge walkway within the forest canopy any very informative information centre.
