Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary, Sandakan

4.1
Visit the home of the island's most iconic natives at Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary. Founded in 1994 by a benevolent developer, the reserve protects around 60 of the seriously endangered primates, supplementing their diet and keeping track of their numbers. Visit the center at feeding time to watch the families of these pot-bellied, large-nosed monkeys emerge from the jungle, and take a walk across the reserve to observe them searching for food in their natural habitat. • This sanctuary is really out of the way (about 45mins in a taxi from sepilok) through endless palm plantations. We didn't arrive at the sanctuary for a feeding time, which makes the entry price not wo...  more »
  • It is possibly one of the best places to see Proboscis. The animals are attracted by fruits twice a day and its a wild population of animals that come to feed.  more »
  • 25 km away from the Orang Utan resort is this forest section with various species of monkeys. You can see the animals during feeding hours only and must wait before only in the restaurant. This is somewhat unsatisfactory. Because it costs twice as much as the Orang Utan Park. Feeding you can then very many animals see, but otherwise everything very unkempt. Too bad for the people who spend too much more money for this guide

  • Those quirky monkeys seem to be not shy . But they are sad. Sad , because their natural environment was destroyed and replaced by palm plantation , where they live now. Additionally as foreign tourist you pay here 4 times more than Malaysian. I give 5 stars for monkeys, one star for this place.
  • They are amazing creatures. I was so excited to see them. But I'm very sad to realise that palms plantation kill their habitat.
  • Platform B more monkeys to see... Got silver fur monkey as well.
  • Outstandng better that the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Better interaction with animals. Fed them, touched them Do not miss feeding times!
  • C'mon guys! Do not go to this place!! A "sanctuary" made by a local palm-plantation owner.... hey, are you kidding me??? Palm plantations are the thing that are killing those monkeys and lots of other animals. The monkeys looked fat and hopeless. The film was a joke. No love to the animals just exploits. It's not a sanctuary it's a rip off. This is the worst joke ever!! Please, do inform yourselves before going to places like this.
