Mount Kinabalu, Sabah

4.4
#1 of 51 in Parks in Sabah
Explore Mount Kinabalu, a towering mountain and World Heritage Site with a tremendous ecological diversity. As Malaysia's highest point, its summit (Low's Peak) reaches 4,096 m (13,438 ft) above sea level. Provided you're in good condition, you don't need any special equipment for the accessible ascent to the top. Elsewhere on the mountain, several rock climbing sites offer challenges for experienced climbers. The protected mountain and national park that surrounds it support around 6,000 species of plants, 326 species of birds, and more than 100 species of mammals, with star residents including the huge Rafflesia plants as well as the endangered orangutan. For this reason, it remains one of the world's chief sites of interest for scientists, nature-lovers, and conservationists. So it's not a strol in the park but is definitely do-able if you have a moderate level of fitness. It's a beautiful climb and the views from the top are just spectacular. Be warned, as so common in As...  more »

Mt Kinabalu do you do in 2 days. From the Ranger Station (1800 m) you go the first day to L R on ± 3300 m and the next day you start around 2:30 am for the top on 4094 metres and back to the Ranger Station. Per day with ease a 100 people. Though busy so but not. A big advantage: little burden of Chinese! The climb is not difficult and doing fine without any experience. Through the many steps which are partly carved out of the rock are the climb is spicy for the legs and certainly small people are suffering from the high sometimes. You have little to take up, but a few things are a must: warm clothes (thermo underwear!), gloves, must and good rain gear cq. Jack to the wind. When I was on the top was there below zero with wind force 7.. And take on the move what energy bars. The food both at the Ranger Station as on L Ratan is simply good!.

It's a very hard hike to the top but the views from there are extremely rewarding. There are way too many people doing the climb so it gets a little bit uncomfortable at times, like a traffic jam in a...  more »

Went here for an expedition. Climb was a pleasant challenge with the thin air g making you breathless. .. guess you can say it was breathtaking. Haha. Try the cliff walking, I missed that due to the time and weather condition.

If you want to experience the best of nature, Mt. Kinabalu is highly recommended. The trail is not that very hard and established. The guide was also good that everything you need to know will be explained. The views are spectacular both from rest camp and the peak. It is a great experience.

Amazing hike. If you are fit its easy to do the whole hike in one day and avoid the crowds that stay on the mountain to catch sunrise. Some of the coolest pitcher plants I've ever seen in the wild reside on this mountain

At summit with my wife on 18 April 2017. An experience that will be remembered for the rest of my life. Big thanks to the mountain guide Jomius Binte.
