Mount Kinabalu, Sabah

4.4
#1 of 51 in Parks in Sabah
Explore Mount Kinabalu, a towering mountain and World Heritage Site with a tremendous ecological diversity. As Malaysia's highest point, its summit (Low's Peak) reaches 4,096 m (13,438 ft) above sea level. Provided you're in good condition, you don't need any special equipment for the accessible ascent to the top. Elsewhere on the mountain, several rock climbing sites offer challenges for experienced climbers. The protected mountain and national park that surrounds it support around 6,000 species of plants, 326 species of birds, and more than 100 species of mammals, with star residents including the huge Rafflesia plants as well as the endangered orangutan. For this reason, it remains one of the world's chief sites of interest for scientists, nature-lovers, and conservationists. • The climb organisation started a few months earlier. We booked the climb through a company named Amazing Borneo and they were indeed amazing. They picked us at the hotel by 06:30hrs. Insisted on getti...  more »
  • The Mt Kinabalu tour can be done only with a permit and guide. For the permit you must register at an early stage and seemingly only succeed, by booking all vacation packages for travel agencies or Sutera sanctuary lodges. Our package included all meals and two nights on the mountain. Accommodations in the Park are okay, but expensive. The night in the hut Laban rata is quasi mandatory and also recommended. The food is good, the atmosphere convivial and the rooms are fine. Looking for a guide to either before, or he is assigned on the day of the climb. The ascent is technically easy in good weather, but is not to be underestimated and the temperatures can easily drop below freezing. The views from the Summit and the tour are impressive and compensate for the long climb. We were thrilled.

  • Hiking hill or mountain is not my cup of tea. Somehow back in 2014, i took the challenge to hike with my sister taking the Mesilau trail (before the quake ). The first 0.5km is easy .. as we ascend to...  more »

  • A memorable and beautiful journey to be remembered. Satisfaction to the Max. Time spent with nature are never a waste! Fall in love with the view, completely breathtaking and sacred feelings on the top. It's one of Gods mercy for human being.
  • Went here for an expedition. Climb was a pleasant challenge with the thin air g making you breathless. .. guess you can say it was breathtaking. Haha. Try the cliff walking, I missed that due to the time and weather condition.
  • If you want to experience the best of nature, Mt. Kinabalu is highly recommended. The trail is not that very hard and established. The guide was also good that everything you need to know will be explained. The views are spectacular both from rest camp and the peak. It is a great experience.
  • Amazing hike. If you are fit its easy to do the whole hike in one day and avoid the crowds that stay on the mountain to catch sunrise. Some of the coolest pitcher plants I've ever seen in the wild reside on this mountain
  • At summit with my wife on 18 April 2017. An experience that will be remembered for the rest of my life. Big thanks to the mountain guide Jomius Binte.
