Meet some of Southeast Asia's most famous creatures at Lok Kawi Wildlife Park. Opened in 2007, the park focuses on both the zoological and the botanical, divided into separate areas. In the zoo, see the endangered proboscis monkeys with their huge snouts and pot-bellies--a native species found only on the island. In the botanical area, follow the 1.4 km (0.9 mi) paved jungle trail, walking through arrangements of flowering vines and surrounded by towering lime trees. Good place to view animals and to educate children about protecting the environment and wildlife. There's also a botanical garden in the area. The park is well laid out. Can't say I noticed if there were facilities for the disabled but it's easy to navigate.
A must see if u visit borneo.. I been here twice and will go again when I get the chance. Great facilities and a unique experience. Really if u visit borneo to see the wild life and learn more this is the only place to do that.. Make sure to visit for the live shows so find out the times in advance. Thank you for the great work you guys are doing for conservation wildlife and education.
A very good place for the kids to visit. There are proboscis monkey that only found in Borneo island. The animal show at 11am is not to be missed. Not a big zoo but there are well manage and good education trip for the young. Entrance fees are reasonable. Parking is convenient and free.
Well laid out exhibits and knowledgeable zookeepers who offer a free feeding tour from around 2PM daily. The highlight was a talking mynah bird.
The Lok Kawi Wildlife Park was officially open to the public on the 17th February 2007. It is located along the Penampang-Papar old road and is fully developed by the Sabah Wildlife Department. The park consists of two components: zoological and botanical. The main objective of the park is to become a family-oriented park and the emphasis is put on the Children’s Zoo. The botanical component, on the other hand; offers visitors the opportunity to go jungle trekking along the botanical trail. The paved trail is about 1.4 kilometers long. However, for leisurely strolls, visitors are only advised to walk halfway along the trail.
