Lok Kawi Wildlife Park, Penampang

Meet some of Southeast Asia's most famous creatures at Lok Kawi Wildlife Park. Opened in 2007, the park focuses on both the zoological and the botanical, divided into separate areas. In the zoo, see the endangered proboscis monkeys with their huge snouts and pot-bellies--a native species found only on the island. In the botanical area, follow the 1.4 km (0.9 mi) paved jungle trail, walking through arrangements of flowering vines and surrounded by towering lime trees. • Nothing worth elaborating here. It is just another zoo. Once you see it then you have seen them all.  more »
  • This is a glorified zoo. Firstly I would say that the animals look ok a well fed. After visiting the reserves in Borneo, this place is not a good place. The sun bears are living in a baren square of g...  more »
  • Contrary to the previous reviews we opened us to a visit... but we can only confirm the reviews. The animals are kept in enclosures, Loveless and not welfare. We can not recommend a visit. You can better spend his time in KK and environment and you should not necessarily support the attitude with a visit.

  • Here you can see mostly local animals and few exotic animals. There is also botanical garden / area for plants manage by forestry department. Please bring umbrella because on sunny day it will be hot. The animal show at 11am. Open 9.30am to 5.30pm. Ticket (Local) - RM10 for adult and RM5 for children. (Foreigner) RM20 for adult and RM10 for children.
  • It's more of a traditional zoo than a wildlife refuge. The people are really nice, the animal show at 11 is cute, worth to see. Some of the animals seems to be miserable in small cages though, just like in all zoos at any other country. The botanical garden is really nice, but not entirely finished yet.
  • Good place to view animals and to educate children about protecting the environment and wildlife. There's also a botanical garden in the area. The park is well laid out. Can't say I noticed if there were facilities for the disabled but it's easy to navigate.
  • A small little park however the orangutans were great and well looked after. Good price to enter but take a drink in with you as there is nothing after the lobby of the park
  • The place tries hard but just doesn't cut it. Orangutans no different from most zoos around the world. Elephants good. The rest is average. Biggest issue is getting back....it's in the middle of nowhere and taxis are not around. Good luck getting an uber - there's no WiFi.
