Christ Church, Melaka

(700+ reviews on the web)
Landmark Religious Site
The oldest functioning Protestant church in Malaysia, Christ Church also represents a well-preserved example of Dutch colonial architecture. The building's facade features a large white cross and the words "Christ Church Malaka" emblazoned across it in white. Walk inside this 18th-century shrine to see its simple rectangular interior with 200-year-old pews. Look up at the ceiling rising 12 m (40 ft) above you, spanned by sturdy wooden beams cut from a single tree. The tombstones incorporated into the floor belong to Portuguese and Armenian Catholics, moved there from a nearby church during the Dutch occupation. • Recognised as the red brick building with a huge white right atop, Christ church is rather a small church but holds great history back then. After viewing the inside of the church which can be done within a few minutes, outside you will also see the tower clock, then catch your breath by resting and grabbing a drink from the stalls. You may be interested in the rickshaw ride as well.
  • To be honest, not much inside. Just another commercialised historical building. Go inside, take a look then come out. Not much to see. Or maybe it's just me. So why don't you drop by since you are here! Enjoy!
  • Great place for people who like history and ancient architecture. The place got the touch of Portuguese, Dutch, and British. Previously painted white a couple of hundreds year before it was painted red.
  • Nice place. Nearby have so many others attraction.
  • Pink, or you may say red. I feel full of pink around here and this church give a impression of stubborness or obstinacíon. Simple but looks so strong.
