Underwater World Langkawi, Langkawi

3.0
#2 of 20 in Zoos & Aquariums in Malaysia
Zoo / Aquarium Nature / Park
Head to Underwater World Langkawi, one of the largest marine and freshwater aquariums in Southeast Asia. Walk through the 15 m (49 ft) underwater tunnel and see magnificent sea creatures of all shapes and sizes swimming right over your head. Don't miss the penguinarium, either, where another underwater tunnel allows you to view the little critters as they swim. A 200-seat theater shows educational films about animal and plant life and the importance of conservation projects. The aquarium's overall emphasis on ecological education enhances your visit, informing you about the threats facing its inhabitants and constructive efforts to counter them. Where to stay in Langkawi

Langkawi Island offers by far the greatest number of accommodation optionsĀ out of all 104 isles in the archipelago. Look for affordable and comfortable rooms in Kuah and the southwestern peninsula, where inexpensive hotels, hostels, and rental apartments draw many budget visitors. For a luxury experience, head to the surrounding islands, where private resorts charge high prices for more amenities and larger rooms.

  • Quite a great place if you manage to catch the feeding times. It's recommended to go at lunch time for this. They house many exotic geckos, a few birds, many penguins, and a lot of marine life. The penguin display is especially great as you get to walk under the aquarium. Entrance fees is 46 for foreigners and 36 for locals. You can go through the entire display casually within an hour. There's Marry Brown's and a cafeteria inside.
  • Good price, nice place to hide from the heat, penguins are funny to observe, there are some fishes. Also go up and enjoy the illusion room. Especially the bridge. The visual effects make you feel unreal
  • Smaller than KLCC. Well maintained. Do note the feeding hours but nothing much to see either. Contrary to other reviews that allocate 2 hours of visit, if one plans to read the descriptions of all the exhibits ... can take up to 4-5 hours. Two restaurants inside offering very affordable food and beverages. The souvenir shop attached also offers cheap merchandise.
  • Marine fishes mostly but there are exotic geckos, salamander, albino frogs and fresh water fish too. Entry fee is RM 46.00 but it is worthwhile. Additional fee of RM 18.00 if you want to enter interactive & panoramic world. There are only 2 types of seahorses on display. The dragon-like seahorses are no longer there. Do not use camera flash here.
  • Not the prettiest place, but has some very interesting animals. Definitely pay a visit to escape the heat. Acceptable rates.
