Layang-layang Beach, Labuan Island
Categories: Beaches, Nature & Parks, Outdoor Activities
Quiet and peaceful Layang-layang Beach was the site of a major World War II battle between the Allied and Japanese troops. Since seaweeds cover the seabed, the water is murky and not suitable for diving or swimming, but you can stroll on soft sand and look for seashells, play sports, or catch a banana boat ride. Nearby points of interest include Peace Park and Surrender Point, built by the Japanese to honor soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the war. The park features a beachside jogging track and food stalls selling satay (peanut sauce).
