Wind Caves, Kuching

3.4
#4 of 7 in Nature in Kuching
Grab on to your flashlight as you navigate the dark caverns of Wind Caves, where only the movement of air and the occasional bat chirps break the profound silence. Reflective strips guide you through the caverns as you observe the natural formations and a large family of bats nesting there. Learn about the cave's features by reading the many museum-like information boards, or ask a tour guide to talk you through this underground world. Bring a helmet or sturdy hat to protect your head from the imminent bat droppings. To visit Wind Caves on your trip to Kuching, use our Kuching journey planning tool .

  • Not the best, but the easiest to explore, and most accessible cave from Kuching. Recommend to bring your own high powered torchlight, or you can rent one from the admission hut.  more »
  • It is a cave located just 10 minutes from the Bau. Unlike the Fairly Cave near because at the height of the entrance way and as much as the tiring. Also almost no up and down. Lights are not on, so bring a torch is essential.

  • This place is really awesome. It's good to go with a tour guide they can tell you what to look out for. There were lots of bats and even snakes. Very dark in some places so bring a torch. I think they...  more »

  • Perfect for a small half day adventure. All three tracks can be completed in 2 hours and the complete darkness definitely adds a bit of otherworldly experience. Conclude the walk with a bit of splash in the crystal clear river near the end of track 1 is a must. Walkway can be better maintained, but hey, this is Malaysian Tourism Board.
  • Good place to explore for those who love adventure. Its very cooling inside the cave with catwalk for you to walk from one end of the cave to the other outlet. Bear in mind that it is pitch dark inside bring along a torch light to shine your way and enjoy the beauty of the cave features and the bats that hang upside down from the ceiling of the cave. If you are lucky one can spot a cave frog and other creatures as well.
  • Doesn't really look impressive from the outside but this location provides a simple and easy way to explore the caves as all the routes have proper walkways and they are no dangerous animals or insects living in the caves. But be careful as the walkways can be slippery and please remember to bring your own flashlight as the inner longer paths are dark. They do not provide flashlight rentals, perhaps they should.
  • Some dangerous section close. Windy feel depends on season. Can spot some interesting fauna and fossil. Worth visiting
  • Wind Cave used to be very clean, an awesome place to visit and for picnics few years back. However, the condition of the hats, the planks pathways, platforms and the cement steps have much deteriorated. Moss grown on them and the steps are very slippery, covered with muds. The toilets are not maintained. During my time of visit there was no water and thus the toilets were very dirty and smelt awful. Be extra careful if going to the river. Beware of broken glasses. On the other, inside the cave the sight is breath taking with many magnificent stalagmites and stalactites also many swifts and their nests. Of course their dung which dropped on the pathways are not welcoming. Inside the cave is very dark so make sure you bright torch light or you can rent them at the guard information counter.
