Wind Caves, Kuching

3.5
#4 of 6 in Nature in Kuching
Grab on to your flashlight as you navigate the dark caverns of Wind Caves, where only the movement of air and the occasional bat chirps break the profound silence. Reflective strips guide you through the caverns as you observe the natural formations and a large family of bats nesting there. Learn about the cave's features by reading the many museum-like information boards, or ask a tour guide to talk you through this underground world. Bring a helmet or sturdy hat to protect your head from the imminent bat droppings. To visit Wind Caves on your trip to Kuching, use our Kuching journey planning tool .

the entrance is about 500 m from the main road. Arrive at least an hour before it closes as I was not allowed in first time. Visits are unguided and you need to have a good torch or phone as it is pit...  more »

Come prepared. Pack light, wear comfortable clothing, covered shoes (may be slippery), wear a hat to cover your head (There are bats around, you don't want Guano in your hair) and flash lights recomme...  more »

Although I'm not a caver, I've visited caves of the less or the least challenging kind. What I've learned is that each cave has its own individuality. I'm never attracted by caves where I have to risk...  more »

Great place to hear and view bats in their natural habitat. Lots of information posts around the cave. One part was sadly closed off. You may need to purchase a bright flashlight at the counter if you haven't got one, as our regular phone's flashlight aren't very bright to see the cave formations and bats further up from the walkway. Pitch dark inside.

A very relaxing trip as compared to Fairy Caves. Please bring along a good torch as the passages are pitch dark. If you have allergies to bat droppings, either bring along some plastic gloves as the railings are full of them. You will get to see bats and swiflets resting in the caves, fossils of insects on the rock form, stalactite and staglamites.

The place is too dark. No lighting provided. Only natural light available at certain areas. The handrail not clean of bat droppings. When you hold the hand rail for support when going down the stairs, be prepared to clean with your mineral water.

Wonderful place to explore. Must see place and you can rent a torch light here as the caves are dark.

Where to stay in Kuching

The most popular area to stay in Kuching remains just south of the Sarawak River, where you can find affordable hotels offering basic but comfortable rooms. South of Jalan Main Bazaar, budget backpacker accommodations in the form of hostels and guesthouses draw many visitors with limited means. Consider the districts north of the river for more exclusive and resort-style alternatives.
