  • It is free to visit the museum and it is within easy walking distance from the city centre. I particularly enjoyed visiting the new wing which provided a clear outline of the history of Sarawak. The e...  more »
  • No surprises why this place won so many awards. The exhibits are clearly providing an insight into Sarawak. I love the ball of fur which they obtained from the Crocodile's stomach. Felt pretty sad for...  more »
  • Both the building and the exhibition seems very in the years to come. The exhibition is actually very diverse and interesting, due to the high temperatures they are hardly enjoyed.

  • A must go whenever I'm at Kuching. Fabulous preserved animals and information on the natives. There's a mini zoo nearby as well as a comfty cafe where you could enjoy local delicacies
  • Cultural and natural museum, not the newest collection, may specimens were probably stuffed and mounted 75 years, ago (some may even be extinct), but it does a good job of explaining things. The cultural portion is actually quite good explaining the history and beliefs of the local people as well as Sarawak's journey from tribal island to nation and eventually state.
  • My children love going to the museum because they learn many historical facts about Sarawak. Personally I enjoyed the animal section and the History of the Local people. Didn't know that once upon a time Batu Lintang was a Japanese prisoners' camp.
  • A lot of money spent on their new showcase, which is well done. However, the original museum building and its contents badly needs maintenance. Air conditioning does not work in the main museum.
  • Take your children with you if you planned to visit; this musuem is very educational!

Where to stay in Kuching

The most popular area to stay in Kuching remains just south of the Sarawak River, where you can find affordable hotels offering basic but comfortable rooms. South of Jalan Main Bazaar, budget backpacker accommodations in the form of hostels and guesthouses draw many visitors with limited means. Consider the districts north of the river for more exclusive and resort-style alternatives.
