Rumah Penghulu Abu Seman, Kuala Lumpur

Immerse yourself in Malay culture at Rumah Penghulu Abu Seman, one of the oldest surviving Malay houses. True to Malay vernacular architecture, the house is made of dark wood and sits atop sound stilts with vented slats in the walls. Visitors can wander the interior on guided tours, or simply peek in from the outside. Below the house you'll spot a hand-carved canoe used in religious ceremonies with a bird's head carved into the prow. The tour kicks off with an informational video followed by the insight of a knowledgeable guide. Water, fans, and mosquito spray are all included with entrance--these items are considered necessities in the wilderness. • this small museum is in the midst of streets, highrises and construction sites. It opens only from 11-3 monday to saturday. I came outside the opening hours and could only have a quick peak and visit ...  more »
  • Up stairs really lived the Sultan (local powerful families long), such as stilt houses, such as the inside can be seen. It is best to cool off

  • There's only 2 times a day at 11 and 3. Beautiful old house with a rich history. Oh no was a wealthy man can a province near the Thai border , and he became a Village chief. Besides his old house there's also an old colonial house that they use as the office. Tour guide was informative, our guide spoke English well, very interesting unique postcards and and gift shop. This place is a must-see for architecture nerds. Ask why the pillars are square, and how many uses there are for staircases.
  • Just okay for some history knowledge. Be sure to confirm the guided tour time or else you have to take photo only from outside. One guide time is at 3:00 PM. The lady in charge was really helpful and nice. She told us many things about the place, even it was not the tour time.
  • Lovely house, tucked away among the skyscrapers. It's a traditional Malaysian house on stilts from the beginning of the 20th century. We could only see it from the outside as we came outside of the opening hours but it was still worth it. The lady working at the culture center here gave us a short tour which was really nice and informative. Worth the detour from the Petronas Towers!
  • Beautiful woodwork, but when we visited there was no one in the office so we could only wander around the outside.
  • Lovely house, tucked away among the skyscrapers
