Signal Hill Observatory Platform, Kota Kinabalu

2.8
#2 of 7 in Childrens Museums in Malaysia
From the top of Signal Hill Observatory Platform you can see Kota Kinabalu from above. Reach the summit by car or by climbing the 250 or so steps, and then see if you can make out the bay just beyond the high rises. If you choose to climb the steps, you will be thankful for the refreshments sold by the viewing platform's resident kiosk. • I can't believe we lived here 5 years and I had never done the stairs from downtown (by the civic center/recycling area, on Jalan Dewan). They were great! One part is quite steep but the rest are fine...  more »
  • Not coincidentally, took a taxi here shop but the Chi at the seaside was a different feeling than going. The sunset is really so nice and did very well, the city's buildings and the right mood.

  • Did not request any taxi driver said to me in favor. Haggling over the price first, and was sidetracked is welcome, admire the Kota Kinabalu city from the Observatory in the family often took a picture. Whatever they say Oh that is not enough to spot, so go to this.

  • Nice view of the architecture of the city and a cute drinks stand that sells ice cream and waffles. Not a very demanding walk up the stairs from the street near the Clock Tower
  • No view because of ugly modern buildings. The steps down through the forest was the best bit. But everyone drives there. No one stays longer than a pointless 90 seconds. Utterly underwhelming.
  • Great view especially during sunset and small cafe is available here but there's lack of parking.
  • Very spectacular view which shows the whole city of Kota Kinabalu. Reaching here by foot requires around 15 minutes of climbing through wooden and bamboo walkways from hill base. Small canteen available here, providing drinks and food.
  • Not really that high. You get decent views here if the city. It might be more worth it to take a ride via grab/uber to the top of the mountain

Where to stay in Kota Kinabalu

In the area of Sepanggar you'll find the main set of hotels, ranging from simple and mid-priced, to the more luxurious with good sea views. Move away from the coast for more space and privacy in resort-style hotels, which offer a range of facilities and comfortable, sometimes quirky rooms and apartments. Farther out still, you'll find backpacker motels, giving easy access to the surrounding natural attractions that, after all, are the primary reason for being here.
