  • Very enjoyable half day trip. The village includes 5 very well presented examples of houses from 5 of the local tribes. Each house includes a demonstration of cooking or similar (hint: the 2nd lot of ...  more »

  • The tour is awesome experience for me and my family. My tour guide Dylan is so nice and very kind. It's so worth it to bring our family here to learn unique Sabah culture. The food is fine and Halal. Delicious and yummy. Thanks for the hospitality 😊👍👍👍
  • The entry ticket is not cheap (100 MYR for foreigners) but worth it. Unlike tribal houses in other countries, Mari Mari's houses are filled with many household items, as if people are still living there. A guided tour is provided and there are so many demonstrations to see, and local food, alcohol and honey to try out (free-of-charge). The cultural performance at the end is also very good- so lively, fun and entertaining. However, I am giving out only 4 stars instead of 5 stara because the lunch that was provided was not that great. The chicken and fish provided were dry and in low quality chunks. If the food were better, I would give it 5 stars.
  • Definitely worth visiting. Learn the 5 different tribes in Sabah with their unique foods, architecture and culture! The tour is very well organised and can spend up to 2 to 3 hours inside.
  • Guided tour is very good with explanantions. Have good sense of humour. The lunch provided tasted really good. The cultural dance towards the end of the tour was really entertaining. Very good experience there.
  • Great place to get to know the different tribes in Sabah. Great staff. Good show.

Where to stay in Kota Kinabalu

In the area of Sepanggar you'll find the main set of hotels, ranging from simple and mid-priced, to the more luxurious with good sea views. Move away from the coast for more space and privacy in resort-style hotels, which offer a range of facilities and comfortable, sometimes quirky rooms and apartments. Farther out still, you'll find backpacker motels, giving easy access to the surrounding natural attractions that, after all, are the primary reason for being here.
