Manukan Island, Kota Kinabalu

3.6
#1 of 16 in Parks in Kota Kinabalu
Take a trip to Manukan Island, located in the country's first marine national park. Hop on a speedboat from the mainland and in 20 minutes you're there--on a paradisal island offering natural attractions and plenty of activities. Head to the southern coastline for white sand beaches, where you can venture into the coral reefs just offshore. Get active with scuba diving, parasailing, and banana boating (chalets around the island's coast rent out equipment). A few restaurants serve an array of local specialities with sea views. • SAPI Island nice place to swim, but this is rather broad, so I felt less people. There is less waste. Fish can swim in shallow waters.

  • Beach more than Sapi island. HA my opinion, very dirty. The island is not well maintained, littered with debris. On the opposite side of the beach, you can sit in the shade with veterochkom and posmotreit of the sea

  • Spent a few hours here after visiting Sapi Island and expected something better. The beach was littered with stones, there were largish rocks on the bottom of the sea, which meant we had to be careful...  more »

  • The island is not great, firstly if you come by speedboat the company gives you a large life jacket which you need to carry around all day or pay to have put in a locker, secondly the beach is nice but there are a lot of tourists, and rubbish everywhere, even in the sea. Pretty good for snorkelling and there are a lot of fish around, but some do bite and it's not very nice to see them having to live amongst all this trash.
  • I had a great time here. The water is so blue. The sand cool and soft. One of the best beaches I've been to.
  • Beautiful island.. many fishes in the sea.. 😀
  • Good place to snorkel. But if you going for a dive, you should try mamutik or Sapi Island. Entrance fee just RM3 for malaysian. All snorkeling equipment can be rent here with fair price
  • NIce laa....service tip top, harga ja mahal

Where to stay in Kota Kinabalu

In the area of Sepanggar you'll find the main set of hotels, ranging from simple and mid-priced, to the more luxurious with good sea views. Move away from the coast for more space and privacy in resort-style hotels, which offer a range of facilities and comfortable, sometimes quirky rooms and apartments. Farther out still, you'll find backpacker motels, giving easy access to the surrounding natural attractions that, after all, are the primary reason for being here.
