Manukan Island, Kota Kinabalu

#1 of 12 in Parks in Kota Kinabalu
Take a trip to Manukan Island, located in the country's first marine national park. Hop on a speedboat from the mainland and in 20 minutes you're there--on a paradisal island offering natural attractions and plenty of activities. Head to the southern coastline for white sand beaches, where you can venture into the coral reefs just offshore. Get active with scuba diving, parasailing, and banana boating (chalets around the island's coast rent out equipment). A few restaurants serve an array of local specialities with sea views. • Beaches near the beach is not a lot, but the sea jellyfish is a lot, to be put into the water protection equipment to wear, if the bikini in the advice of the beach to walk on the good, don't don't water!

  • With the aperture go to this island just by word of mouth, but time. But Beach seen in the photo is a far cry from what was on the island, I was surprised. Every day the weather is bad, the sea can be understood is that lots of rubbish into the sea. Also, wave children using diapers and rice bags, many unpleasant things have been shipwrecked. Anyways, don't snorkel and said local people are dirty and cannot be said. Not the Japanese, was tightening on the part of the continent. They don't care, enjoy beach activities. Waiting for the ship to do anything not spent at the restaurant of the island, but food was good. Is aware that there are bugs. The toilet in the restaurant has fine and comfortable. I think is good if the weather was good times, another Kota Kinabalu tourism in not.

  • I went here for swimming. They had toilet and shower facility. Not much Choice for dining options, which was pricey.Calming, peaceful vibe on the island  more »

  • The island is not great, firstly if you come by speedboat the company gives you a large life jacket which you need to carry around all day or pay to have put in a locker, secondly the beach is nice but there are a lot of tourists, and rubbish everywhere, even in the sea. Pretty good for snorkelling and there are a lot of fish around, but some do bite and it's not very nice to see them having to live amongst all this trash.
  • One of the beautiful islands i've ever been. Water is crystal clear, the crowd is in small number and the island is well managed and maintained.
  • Very nice scenery! Crystal clear water. Very good for snorkeling. They also have a lookout which is worth to visit.
  • I prefer Manukan Island than the other neigbour island, Sapi and Mamutik. Besides of the sea activities, you also can enjoy hiking and walk along the beach to get back to the main point. Don't forget to try parasailing, you will see amazing view off KK city from the other side. If you want to stay overnight, there is an accomodation for you, no worries!
  • Nice place crowded with tourist, a lot of fun activities can be done. However, food are quite expensive.

Where to stay in Kota Kinabalu

In the area of Sepanggar you'll find the main set of hotels, ranging from simple and mid-priced, to the more luxurious with good sea views. Move away from the coast for more space and privacy in resort-style hotels, which offer a range of facilities and comfortable, sometimes quirky rooms and apartments. Farther out still, you'll find backpacker motels, giving easy access to the surrounding natural attractions that, after all, are the primary reason for being here.
