Where to stay in Kota Bharu

Most accommodation in Kota Bharu remains clustered near downtown on the right bank of the Sungai Kelantan River. Options range from small budget-friendly guesthouses to towering modern hotels, with everything staying relatively affordable. Spending a little extra generally results in a significant upgrade in quality, with simple rooms quickly turning into well-appointed digs replete with amenities such as Wi-Fi, satellite TV, and access to a swimming pool. Still, those stretching their travel budgets should find plenty of basic, clean rooms around town.

  • Great market with many floors, and if you want you could probably spend a few hours here just strolling around. The one's I talked to spoke really good english and was very friendly!  more »
  • The pasar just a walking distance from the local bus station in Jalan Pendek. The market is busy and busting with people during the day. Thank god we went there on foot. We entered through the ground ...  more »
  • I can't believe Pasar Siti Khadijah is in the list as one of the tourist spot to visit. Honestly there's nothing special for you to see here, but if you want to end up getting disappointed then it's u...  more »

  • Combination of wet and dry market, food, fruits and clothings stores. You can also find some jewellery stores here. Varieties of local delicacies at cheap price. However fruits are no longer cheap. Lots of fish, prawn, squid, tapioca crackers on the 1st floor. Spices and cooking utensils are also there. According to locals this place is open til 1900 but I see no more activities at 1600.
  • Traditional market where one can find all sorts of local produce, dry goods and meats.
  • Siti Khadijah Market (Pasar besar Siti Khadijah), as its name implies, is a local wet market. Its name after Prophet Muhammad's wife, whom is known for her entrepreneurial skill, as this market is mostly run by women. Apart from the usual fresh goodies like seafood, vegetables and wide variety of fruits, you can also find ready-to eat food like 'ayam percik', nasi ulam and a variety of noodle soups, all unique in flavors and taste of Kelantan, serves freshly for you. Not to forget to taste the local desserts like 'kuih muih' (cake sort of), tempeh and a glass of hot milk tea, which is the staple drink for Kelantanese.
  • Located at the heart of city, so why not make a visit here when you are nearby.
  • Nice market
