Johor Zoo, Johor Bahru

2.4
#1 of 6 in Parks in Johor Bahru
Stroll through Johor Zoo, a small venue in the center of the city with a good selection of wildlife. The zoo boasts a long history dating back to 1928 and has in recent years been renovated to better acommodate the animals. Entry is inexpensive and the cages fairly cramped, but the variety of animals is suprisingly high for a wildlife sanctuary of its size. The kid-friendly park also offers several rides around the facility and occasional shows featuring different animals. • The zoo was only 2 Ringgit to get in (around 40p). But the zoo was so badly maintained it was crazy. The cage for the crocodile had a shabby padlock, he could easily escape! The monkeys had no stimula...  more »

  • For an admissions charge that cost less than a can of coke (RM2, S$0.70, US$O.50, ¥50), this zoo, while nowhere near the level of the outstanding Singapore Zoo, exceeds expectations! The general structure might be old, but it's relatively well-maintained and generally clean. Facilities are ample. Refreshments are fairly priced. The variety of animals is decent considering the whole area is actually quite small. Lions, elephants, tigers, crocodiles, ostriches, bears, snakes... Oh my! My only problem lies with the few visitors who have no idea how to behave in a civil society, i.e. littering, being obnoxious or having ridiculous expectations... Annoying traits that can be found anywhere else, not just in this zoo.
  • The zoo is reasonably managed with variety of animals who are well taken care of. Children will love the elephant, horses and dear section. There is a toy train but hardly used. Good place to bring children for a whole day of edutainment.
  • The price is very affordable so its suitable for students who'd like to kill time. But when I went there the animals looked so hungry (especially the otter) and the place looked so poorly managed (understandable bc of the cheap price). Better to have some improvement if you want to attract some more people.
  • Not the biggest or the best zoo but the open concept, cheap fees and within City Centre give the best experience.
  • nice place for family visit. super cheap (MYR1 kids, MYR2 for adults). animal feeding, horse riding, etc at low price.
