Learn about the city's Chinese community of tin miners at Ipoh World at Han Chin Pet Soo, a museum situated inside a former clubhouse. Established in 1893, the clubhouse provided the miners with a place where they could gamble, smoke opium, entertain "dancing girls," and socialize with colleagues and friends from back home. Take a comprehensive and informative guided tour of the museum, see the clubhouse history brought to life through dioramas, photos, and period artifacts from the 19th and 20th centuries, and learn about the tin mining process. Reserve your tickets in advance, as the number of tours per day is limited. Plan to see Ipoh World at Han Chin Pet Soo and other attractions that appeal to you using our Ipoh itinerary planner.

  • Great insight on the early history of tin mining and the Hakkas in Perak. Friendly guide. No restriction on taking photos.
  • Don't forget to make a reservation before you head down to this place, as it may be fully booked at times. There are guides who are able to provide tours in small groups in English, Mandarin or Cantonese (their native language). My guide took great care to make sure the tour was fun and highly informative, and encouraged us to take lots of photos. There are also great use of models and sounds to get visitors immerse in the olden days. Overall, a great place to deeply understand the part of the history of Ipoh (both the ugly and good parts) and how it became the tin mine of the world.
  • A must visit! It gives you the history of Ipoh, complete with fantastic exhibits and a great guide. Before the economy collapsed in 1985, when aluminum replaced tin, Ipoh was regarded by many as the richest tin deposit in the world. Visit the museum to learn more!
  • A must visit for tourists to Ipoh. A very good account of how Hakka Chinese came to Ipoh to start tin mining in Kinta Valley.
