Ipoh Railway Station, Ipoh

3.4
Admire the architecture of Ipoh Railway Station, known colloquially as the "Taj Mahal of Ipoh" due to its white color, central dome, and stately design. British architect Arthur Benison Hubback designed the building, drawing influences from late-Edwardian architecture and a wide variety of Western colonial styles. In front of the station, take a stroll through the open plaza and observe the cenotaph commemorating the victims of both world wars, as well as those who died during the building of the Thailand-Burma Railway. • A very easy train station to navigate around. Interesting architecture and I guess part of the newest King and I was filmed here. It certainly stands out against a beautiful blue sky.  more »

  • Beautiful landscape in front of the pivotal historical building of Ipoh. Far from the previous reputation of being the spot of loitering in the night time...
  • The railway station was the highlight of my ipoh visit. It was beautiful and i enjoyed my trip there, the outside had a lot of parking spots for convenience. The field was outstanding with recycled decoration and unbelievably clean. The place also didn't require money to explore and take pictures. I recommend visiting at night because they have huge and small colourful fountains that light up after 8pm.
  • Big square in front of the railway building, very beautifully maintained
  • A small square with garden & war II memorial
  • Better to come at night. It has color water fountains.

Where to stay in Ipoh

The main concentration of lodgings in Ipoh currently cluster in the newly developed sections of town. Beware of a proliferation of hotels in Ipoh attributing generous stars to their names--a practice that doesn't necessarily reflect the quality of some of the establishments. Do your research in advance to avoid disappointment. The range of available options is huge, with several Ipoh hotels catering to different budgetary needs. The luxury hotels here often have annexed spa and wellness treatment centers.
