  • To get the most beautiful pictures in the up - and downhill from one place in the front or rear car window. The rapid ride takes about 5 minutes. Once at the top worth a look back to the railway line. In clear weather there is a fantastic panoramic view over the city and the Penang Bridge on the observation deck and the Mainland of Malaysia. When visiting during the week, in the morning, it saves lot of time upon arrival and has no long queues. A fast-lane ticket is recommended in larger number of visitors.

  • We went up on the funicular rail, which these days is remarkably quick. However the queues can be horrific. If you are willing to pay more, you go on the priority line. It is noticeably cooler up the ...  more »

  • A great spot to visit in Penang. It's a great vantage point. You can see many parts of the island. You can't ride scooters up the hill, however. You can asked to be driven to the top (for a fee), or walk up. It's quite steep, so this is only recommended for fit people. Its about a 3 hour round trip if walking. There are cars parked at the bottom of the hill offering lifts. The fee was about 50 ringit per car, from memory. This was also a hot spot for monkeys. We saw many of them climbing around in trees on the hill. It was very enjoyable!
  • One of the must-see attractions of Penang. Try to avoid weekends as there is horrible queue for the train. Take the fast track if you can afford it. It seems expensive but well worth the time you can save by avoiding the long queues.
  • Wonderful place, must go, amazing view from top of the city, love to go and spend time on top of it
  • It was an amazing experience. It started with the funicular train which almost felt like a roller coaster. I was awestruck. The ticket is 30RM for foreigners for normal lane. The next, from the skywalk and the viewing deck it was a very beautiful view of the entire George town. There are a lot activities to do at the Hill, including an artist who draws caricature portrait for 20RM (B/W) and 30RM (Color), a camera and a owl museum, a lovelock bridge, and the various trails on the Hill, with one amongst them leading directly to the botanical gardens. That would be one long walk, unless you wanna hire a buggy or jeep to help you travel around.
  • Just wasted time and money because there is nothing at the top of the hill and what is there is for money again and it's pretty overpriced. Restaurants there are also very poor and dirty. Just don't bother yourself to get there and if you travelling there by bus 204 from George Town get off from the bus one stop earlier at Kek Lok Si temple, this place is worth to visit and view at Georg town is almost as same as from Penang hill, there is similar train inside the temple to huge statue above it and everything is much more cheaper there.

Where to stay in George Town

As an established tourist destination, George Town offers a range of options making use of the city's famous architectural diversity, with boutique hotels in the old town themed around the history of the building they occupy. For such singular accommodations, expect to pay a little more. Budget hotels and unbranded local options provide a comfortable night sleep at an affordable rate. The coastal areas offer more expensive resort-style luxury rooms with sea views, while away from the beaten track, you'll find backpacker hostels providing good options for those wanting to keep on the move.
