Penang Botanical Gardens, George Town

3.7
#3 of 14 in Parks in Penang Island
Stroll around the city's "green lung" at Penang Botanical Gardens. Established by the British on the site of an old granite quarry in 1884, the public gardens stretch out across 29 hectares (72 acres). Amble across the scenery to find the famous trees that live here, many with evocative nicknames like "the five o'clock tree" (its buds close just before dark). If you need a little exercise during your trip, come here for a jog, jungle trekking, or aerobics. Spot the many animals that call the park home, with long-tailed macaques, dusky leaf monkeys, and black giant squirrels among the favorites. Penang Botanical Gardens is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, George Town Edition.

The Botanical Garden in Penang is somewhat secluded. At the entrance one is besieged by monkeys, typical of the macaques are quite naughty. Otherwise, it's spacious grounds with individual "houses" in which special plants can be seen. Little to no explanation signs. Would not even times extra go. Small tip for trekkers, here leading a trek up to Penang Hill (approximately 2-3 hours)

Penang is a big city and is well known for its food and street art. If you want to escape yourself from the big city atmosphere, this will be the best place for you. It has fresh air, unique plants, and it's a big big park. I will be a perfect spot for picnic if you are looking for one in penang. Because it's big, the park provides shuttle service (need to pay but not pricey) It's also a good place for drawing landscape and etc

Beautiful place! Good for recreation and get yourself close to the nature. Unfortunately, you still can see people littering at the side of the pedestrian. The mentality to conserve the nature is too damn low. Sorry for the long post here's a Banana. Monkey don't need money, monkey need bananas to live.

This is one place you should not miss in Penang. And get a good knowledge of paths inside. And do not miss lily pond. Ask others how to reach the pond. This is the best and close to nature place in Penang with free entry. Loved it.

Absolutely beautiful gardens, well maintained, so much to see, so much to do. Great for a picnic, an easy walk through the park, mountain biking or even some heavy trekking. Great photo opportunities here. Lots of cute monkeys. Only downside ~ people have taught the monkeys that it is okay to take food from them so they can get a little aggressive.

Another Great place to visit in Penang. The view will calm ur mind. U can play frisbee or badminton there if u take equipment with u. Kids can play in water also but be aware of the monkeys as they snatch things from u.
