Penang Botanical Gardens, George Town

(3.7/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
Stroll around the city's "green lung" at Penang Botanical Gardens. Established by the British on the site of an old granite quarry in 1884, the public gardens stretch out across 29 hectares (72 acres). Amble across the scenery to find the famous trees that live here, many with evocative nicknames like "the five o'clock tree" (its buds close just before dark). If you need a little exercise during your trip, come here for a jog, jungle trekking, or aerobics. Spot the many animals that call the park home, with long-tailed macaques, dusky leaf monkeys, and black giant squirrels among the favorites. Using our international travel planner, George Town attractions like Penang Botanical Gardens can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Well worth a visit to see the clean, well managed Park. A range of flora & fauna, a lovely walk and all skirted by the forest/jungle. Monkeys wander about freely and we saw lots of youngsters playing....  more »

  • Well kept park. A little sad some parts of it are closed. And the parts that are meant to be open at a certain time, also remain closed! Monkeys are on the outside, they used to roam more freely I recall. Overall though, still a well kept green lung in the city
  • Best place for running and relaxing in green area of Penang. Clean, quiet, peaceful. Lots of benches to rest in the shadow. Clean public toilet is also convenient. You can meet monkeys near the entrance. And be ready to hike up to Penang hill - worth doing it!
  • nice place to stay. trees over hundred years old and a lot of beautiful flowers in the middle of the year. but the main attraction is definitely the small monkeys runing around. you can feed them, but take care of your belongings.
  • If you have a day in Penang and want to relax, I recommended here. You can enjoy running in beautiful garden, see many kind of plant such as orchid, fern, plam, bromeliad etc. or you can hike form here to Penang Hills. and you can come here by local bus..
  • An amazing jungle oasis in the city of Penang. It was suggested to us to go at night so it wouldn't be too hot but we went midday on a rainy day. It was the perfect weather. Just below 80degrees and cloudy was perfect! Also great for photos. Take lots of photos.
