Komtar, George Town

2.0
For sweeping views of Penang ride an elevator to the top of Komtar, a 65-storey high rise that remains one of the tallest buildings in Malaysia. You can also enjoy the view from the buffet restaurant operating on the 58th floor. On the lower floors, look for affordable local boutiques and stalls specializing in laptop, cell phone, and camera repair services. Put Komtar on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our George Town trip planner .

  • A super place to start shopping with lots of things to c and buy and the air con is great
  • It is what it is... Generally a collection of slightly faded lower end retailers, but with a few gems hiding in plain sight.
  • Great for having Dim Sum and lots of parking spaces.
  • Really old mall in need of an update. Glad to see some efforts are already underway.
  • Good to bring family & friends get togethers.

Where to stay in George Town

As an established tourist destination, George Town offers a range of options making use of the city's famous architectural diversity, with boutique hotels in the old town themed around the history of the building they occupy. For such singular accommodations, expect to pay a little more. Budget hotels and unbranded local options provide a comfortable night sleep at an affordable rate. The coastal areas offer more expensive resort-style luxury rooms with sea views, while away from the beaten track, you'll find backpacker hostels providing good options for those wanting to keep on the move.
