Khoo Kongsi, George Town

4.2
Enjoy the ornamental architecture of Khoo Kongsi, a Chinese clanhouse in George Town's World Heritage-listed area. The Khoo Kongsi clan of wealthy Chinese traders constructed the complex in stages beginning in the 17th century. Today the complex features an ornate and elaborate association building, a traditional theater, and late 19th-century rowhouses. The protected buildings represent good examples of Chinese design, and guided tours elucidate the culture of the clan, their influence on the area, and the history of the clanhouse itself. • A well preserved historical building. The history of the surname clans is well documented in the building. The entrance fee is rm10 which I find it expensive because I am usually the one who bring friends over to this place to visit. They have something like a frequent entrance pass or something. Well, in short, this place is worth visiting. And of course it's definitely a good place to do photo shooting.
  • A well maintained and beautiful temple. Quick visit as it's not too big but has a good amount of informational posters / stands in it describing the history of the place.
  • Came from KL to Penang and wanted to see what the city had to offer. The Khoo Kongsi is full of history that brings light to the understanding of the cultural melting pot that is Malaysia. The lovely owners of the shop enlightened us to the free puppet show that was happening the next evening. We came back to the awe inducing spectacle of lights that brilliantly displays the intricate architecture. Its quite the sight. The puppet show was both emotional and inspiring, and free for crying out loud. A true treasure.
  • Grand Temple is owned by the richest Chinese Clan in Malaysia. This Temple named LEONG SAN TONG which means DRAGON MOUNTAIN HALL, is in World Heritage area of UNESCO in George Town. Amazed to see the architecture and ornament of this temple is a lot of detail and red color. Khoo Kongsi is one of the union of Chinese descendants of the HOKKIAN tribe that triumphed on the peninsula of Malaysia. The history of their existence can be traced back to 650 years
  • Well kept historical building great for wonderful photography moment. It has an open space in the middle of the premise with stage available and it can be rented for special occasion. Street food hawkers can be called in for special catering services. It's a pity that the washroom were not taken care very well where you will find the flusher either failed to function or it's at a very unhygienic condition.
