Dharmikarama Burmese Temple, George Town
(4.3/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Admire the monumental architecture and calming interior of a long-established Buddhist place of worship at Dharmikarama Burmese Temple. Founded in 1803 by a wealthy member of the city's Bamar community, the building represents the only Burmese Buddhist temple outside Myanmar. Its particularly colorful and ornate exterior, conical tower, and square main hall distinguish it from other Buddhist temples in the country. Beyond its religious significance, it stands as a testament to a community. Learn the history of Malaysia's Burmese population from the set of information panels positioned throughout the temple grounds. Put Dharmikarama Burmese Temple at the forefront of your travel plans using our George Town vacation builder.

  • This is a really unique temple because it is Burmese, so don't miss it! You can go to the top of one building for a great view of the surrounding area. There are multiple buildings and lots to explore...  more »

  • Beautiful temple and pagoda! Several "buildings" to see, the whole place was very nice. Don't forget to go up the tower at the back, it's not that high, but enough to have a different wonderful view!
  • I've been 2 this burmese place in 2008. And it was aw esome
  • A Burmese Buddhist Temple in Penang, with its solemn atmosphere and one of the largest Sleeping Buddha statue in Malaysia. The temple is very beautiful and I would recommend to drop-by for a visit.
  • There are several mismatched photos from the opposite sleeping Buddha temple. This is the Burmese temple with several interesting sections to explore. Take some time and go thru them all
  • Fantastic place to have a peaceful time
