Dharmikarama Burmese Temple, George Town

Admire the monumental architecture and calming interior of a long-established Buddhist place of worship at Dharmikarama Burmese Temple. Founded in 1803 by a wealthy member of the city's Bamar community, the building represents the only Burmese Buddhist temple outside Myanmar. Its particularly colorful and ornate exterior, conical tower, and square main hall distinguish it from other Buddhist temples in the country. Beyond its religious significance, it stands as a testament to a community. Learn the history of Malaysia's Burmese population from the set of information panels positioned throughout the temple grounds. • A very big temple. Not much crowded usually. There is a winch that takes you to the top of the temple. There is a separate charge for the winch and there is usually a wait of around 20-30 mins for it. The view of the while city from the top of the temple is very good. There are many small shops on the way to the temple and even in the temple premises.
  • A beautiful temple with a lot of culture. It was quite unlike any of the other Buddhist temples I've been too. The monks were super friendly, as well. A must-see in Penang.
  • Wonderful place to visit. Take your time exploring all the different little shrines, they are very ornate. I would suggest to visit it early in the morning to avoid the crowd.
  • A serene Buddhist temple. You may let the monks to bless you. Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!
  • Buddhisim temple with Mynmar style. Similar but not like Thai style. Some place you need to take off shoe.
