Cannon Street, George Town
(4.2/5 based on 280+ reviews on the web)
Walk along Cannon Street to see a crater caused by the impact of a cannon shot fired by government troops during the Penang riots of 1867. A wrought-iron diorama shows a rickshaw unable to cross the large hole. Along the street you can find ornate temples, coffee shops, and various small boutiques, many housed in colonial-era buildings. Lots of interesting street art and graffiti decorate this historical area. • Fun to walk through and lookup to go to fun murals and other works of art. Many small restaurants/street food in the neighborhood, ideal for the local food to try.

  • The street features quirky shops, good cafes and the famous Penang street art. We chose to make a day of exploring the temples, Cannon Street and Armenian Street. Highly recommended.
