Kek Lok Si Temple, Air Itam

Visit Kek Lok Si Temple, the largest Buddhist complex in Malaysia. Established at its hilltop location in 1891, the temple harmoniously combines architectural influences from across the region. Its main feature remains the impressive seven-story pagoda and its 10,000 alabaster and bronze statues of Buddha. The ample grounds include separate areas of relaxation and contemplation, with pools, ponds, and well-maintained, peaceful gardens. A venerated place of worship, the temple attracts pilgrims from across Southeast Asia and beyond. • It is better to go in the morning, as it closes at 17:30 and it takes at least a couple of hours to see it quietly. It's very big, and it's about three different heights. The views are very nice. It is a very special place, which is definitely worth visiting. It's best to take a Grab or a taxi, which in about 15 minutes from Georgetown city center can get you close. We went by bus and it took over an hour, and to get back they did not pass. When we visited him they were building a stupa, which will give even more splendor than he already has.

  • Wandering around this huge temple ground can easily take hours - be sure to make your way with the cable car to the very top where the big statue is. I was there for chinese new year and the entire pl...  more »

  • A beautiful temple with goddess of mercy at the top. At the ground there is train that allows you to go up without climbing. There’s a few station to get to the top. Require to pay of course. During Chinese New Year. Kek Lo Si will light up in LED. it is beautiful and nice. The whole place is so beautiful. Definitely will be here to pray again.
  • The statue of Goddess of Mercy is great, also is one of the biggest in the world. You can visit the pagoda with three statues of Buddha, the only quiet place in the area) It could be a great place to know more about Buddhism in Chinese culture, but there’s so much tourists, that you couldn’t get rid of the feeling of fun-attraction. Wanna see a “spiritual Las-Vegas”? Then it’s the right place for you to visit, especially in the evening. When it gets dark, the whole place starts to shimmer like a New Year’s Eve tree - there’s garlands of light literally everywhere, on every building, a tree and a bush.
  • Massive temple complex, worth visiting. Mostly free with paid areas to go to the pagoda or ride the funicular to the top - which can also be walked. Plan to spend at least an hour here. Must take off shoes to enter some areas. Some areas designed for tourists, as there is more than 1 area selling souvenirs. They were setting up for Chinese New Year during our visit which sounds to be the best time to visit.
  • The temple looks stunning with countless lanterns during the Lunar New Year! We visited in Feb 2018. If you go during the Lunar New Year, remember to leave in the afternoon (reaching there by 4:30pm max should be good) spend a couple hours exploring the place before the Sun goes down. To see all those lanterns come on after sunset is a sight worth the wait. No wonder most people make evening trips. And, when you book a cab back, just call it down the hill and walk down to it, because, there's is no way the cab is going to reach you at the temple gate before a few hours. Lakhs of people (devotees and tourists) visit during this time of the year. Enjoy!
  • The lights are magnificent. The Goddess of Mercy statue also remarkable. Always feel grateful seeing the statue. Unfortunately, they are renovating the turtle's pond. Lose one of the sightseeing there. They also renovate some parts there. Hope on my next coming back, the ornaments surrounding the statue can all be done.
