Avenue of the Baobabs, Morondava

Take an ox cart through spectacular scenery and hundreds of years of botanical history at Avenue of the Baobabs, a red dirt road lined on both sides with ancient baobab trees. The giant trees along this 260 m (853 ft) section of the road draw tourists from all corners of the globe. Some of the sacred trees date back over 800 years; in the past, they stood as part of a larger forest, and early Arab travelers described them as ripped up and placed back into the earth upside-down. Reaching for the skies at 30 m (98 ft), the baobabs have a diameter of up to 11 m (36 ft) and circumference of up to 50 m (160 ft). • I recommend checking out the Avenue of the Baobabs when in Morondova. It is a beautiful place despite the bumpy roads on the way. I walked the avenue and the car waited for me at the parking lot. It w...  more »
  • A little disappointed with this site. The baobab alley is no more than 100 m long. As for the beautiful sunset but no more and does not justify waiting 2 hours.

  • Enjoy a unique site and one of the most photographed place in Madagascar. It doesn't matter the time of the day, it's always a good moment to enjoy. Of course sunset time is full of tourist trying to get amazing pics. BTW it's possible to fly a drone, but be kind and respect the people on the site.
  • Never seen a place more beautiful that was not on the sea. The sunrise was exquisite the sunset was extra exquisite. I honestly cannot decide which I love more. The baobabs were straight out of all my fantasies. The road was perfect. Just enough Murray. And not nearly enough tarmac. My biKe loved it. The right amount of tarmac vs Murray. The trees were perfect. The people were perfect. The environment was perfect. Perfect perfect perfect. All was well worth the enormous hustle to get to this palace. The hotel was lovely. The service was extra personal. I love Madagascar
  • Probably the premiere location in Madagascar. We were driven here by our guides from Remote River Expeditions. They brought folding chairs and a table and served us cocktails while the sun went down behind the Boababs. Unforgetable!
  • We drive. It's a long trip from Antananarivo to here. The views along are very beautiful
  • It is one of the most popular places for taking pictures in Africa, and that is for a good reason ! During the sunset nearly each minute you get another special light. I absolutely loved it! The trees are magic majestic and absolutely beautiful! It was a very special experience for us 😉
