Chateau de Vianden, Vianden

(4.5/5 based on 950+ reviews on the web)
Transport yourself centuries back in time at Chateau de Vianden, a medieval fortress and palace dating back to the 14th century. Before you enter, notice the guard towers--one white and one black--flanking the main structure. Walk through a total of five gates, including a drawbridge and a descending grid. Afterward, you'll come to the little palace, where you can see the armory and Byzantine hall with its beautiful trefoil windows. Next, find the great palace, the largest section of the castle, featuring a knights' hall. Perhaps the most significant section, however, is the Romanesque-style chapel, which boasts two floors with an opening in the middle and balconies for the nobles. • The Castle has foundations dating back the Romans and for centuries was suffering transformations. In the 22 meeting rooms for various objects, armour, miniatures. The Roman foundations are cool, but I confess that I did not like the reforms being made. Are destroyed the Castle. There are rooms with furniture that are clearly not of the time. The Chapel, for example, is with colors that certainly didn't exist when it was used. But it's worth the ride. Don't go hungry because the cafeteria is not good.

  • Beautiful castle with a great view. There is a small museum. During our visit was worked to affect restoration and enlargement of the tour parts of the Castle. In the restaurant you can enjoy a nice lunch and a glass of wine or drinking beer.

  • Go -especially with children for a nice visit of a fully restored castle. It is worth seeing and visting while learning about the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg.

  • This is like a fairy tale come true! Wow this place is amazing! Definitely take the cable car ride for the view from the top of the mountain, it's cheap and totally worth it! 2 days is more than enough to see everything, it's very small, but it's so beautiful u could easily stay there 5 days without getting tired of it! Most places the only accept cash. Be careful driving, the mountain has a lot of switchbacks but the roads are very well kept and should not be dangerous. There are a lot of motorcyclists in this area for the mountainous roads so watch out for them, and keep to the speed limit there are cops with speedguns. I would come back here in a heart beat!
  • This castle is amazing. It's big and well-preserved. The visit actually takes quite some time and there is a lot to see. The landscape surrounding the castle are beautiful and it's great to relax in the upper yards while looking at the forests & towns. They allow pictures to be taken and often have some side exhibitions that are a nice addition - no need to pay extra to see those.
  • This destination offers a well-laid out and easy to navigate path through a very old castle. I would recommend the audio guide for any English speakers as there are very little written English explanations of the displays or rooms. The one downfall is that it does not offer easy accessibility for anyone who may have difficulty climbing stairs or who uses a wheelchair.
  • It's a castle. It looks nice from outside. Nothing too particular inside.
  • Exactly what I think of when I hear castle. Worth a visit if your in the area.
