  • The St. Michael Church in the old part of the city of Luxembourg is the oldest church of the city, and was in the year 987 consecrated by Bishop Egbert of Trier. The building was intended as a chapel of the fortified castle that Count Siegfried of Luxembourg on the Bock-rock had built on the site of an ancient Roman camp, Lucilinburhuc (' little castle '). The current church building was largely of 1688, and has characteristic Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque elements. Also, because there is the Baroque altar of Namur as for me very nicely in this rich liturgical Interior, crowned with Gothic cross bows. Also the beautiful stained glass windows-of course after WW-II-fit perfectly! So right after all Saints ' day and all souls ' day hangs the incense smell still in the Church, and many flowers and children's drawings indicate a living Church! Over the centuries, the building has been destroyed or damaged several times. It is also near the fortress Luxembourg, and according to me walking the Casemates as moles courses below the Church! Each attack on the fortress also meant showing the necessary renovations/herbouwingen of the St. Michael. A church to love!

  • The city of Luxembourg is characterized for the part East of having spectacular views. On the way to one of the points, hand right appears this Chapel, simple with some interesting as the baptismal or body details.

  • St Michael's Church is one of the oldest places of worship in the city. In 987, at the place of the current church of St Michael, County Sigefroi did make a small chapel. Over the centuries, the Church was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt, modified and extended. The current appearance of the Church corresponds to that she received in 1688. Because of its eventful history, the building was restored in the 1960s and 1980s, meeting today elements of Romanesque, Gothic and baroque architecture. Many statues, beautiful stained glass, paintings... A nice visit!
