Place d'Armes, Luxembourg City

Once a parade ground for troops, Place d'Armes today sits as a gathering place for city residents. Stately architectural gems border the square, including the municipal palace, known as the Cercle. You'll recognize the building for the three arches over its entry and top-floor windows, as well as a relief depicting the Charter of Emancipation, when Countess Ermesinde granted freedoms and duties to nobility for the people of Luxembourg. A marketplace area hosts people every year and offers a broad selection of handcrafted goods and tasty treats. No matter what time of year you visit, take time to indulge in the cafe culture here. • The beating heart of the city that, in other area, is almost deserted! The atmosphere of this beautiful square.

  • Here is very much going on and a restaurant is next to the other - so I think something everyone here is. Already very high priced but for our conditions. There are alternatives in the "reason".

  • This is the market in Luxembourg. Here are the markets and concerts on a regular basis. Many restaurants and bars surround the place and the city shopping streets are just around the corner. Always a lot of hustle and bustle here.

  • Came here when our usual weekend breakfast spot was closed. I've had bread from here many times (always good) but had the brunch for the first time — was a very nice surprise. Fresh fruit, pastries, salmon, salads, charcuterie, and eggs cooked to order. It's also quieter when eating upstairs. Will definitely return.
  • I went for breakfast and had the baguette plus coffee option. Great deal. Bread is super fresh and coffee is good. The place gets noisy and can be crowded. Staff is friendly. Sandwiches to go are tasty. And bread is good.
  • Food was ok, the bread in the sandwich was very dry and crusty. Very, very slow service.
  • Not what I expected. More expensive than other opportunities.
  • Nice little cafe ! Like other French speaking cafe, English doesn't work very well . :)

Where to stay in Luxembourg City

With 24 districts making up Luxembourg City, you might have a hard time choosing what neighborhood you like best. For starters, look at accommodations in Ville Haute, the medieval center, where you’ll be at the heart of the city and within walking distance to main attractions as well as public transportation. If stunning views are what you’re after, look into Ville Basse, a central neighborhood in the city’s gorge. Gare is also well-located, home to the city’s main train station as well as many lively restaurants and cafes filled with locals. Whether you stay in one of the city’s few hostels or a hotel, be prepared for high prices.
