  • On Sunday the shops are closed and then this museum is worth a visit. The free part was only the permanent part, which consists of the bottom 5 floors. Each floor was about a certain era, from prehistoric times to ice age, bronze age, Roman times. Everything is nicely displayed, but there is one flaw. All caption is only in French. Well there are folders available with English or German translations of the text to the walls. We have not visited the temporary part.

  • In the heart of the city visited the Museum. The Museum is very cosy and unusual. Interesting collection of paintings of different periods and schools and numismatic collection. survey of these collections took us about an hour and a half.

  • Amazing museum! We had to pull our kids out of it. Every floor is dedicated to an era of the (Pre)-history of Luxembourg and the museography is of very high quality. We loved as well visiting the historical houses that are connected to the museum.
  • Huge museum and free none the less! Fantastic Roman mosaic and artifacts. Really well put together and had English translation in booklets. Newer exhibits have English on them.
  • Beatiful mixte between the history and the arts
  • It is 8 floors of exhibition. Fortunately this museum is free (except the temporary exhibition, 7€). So if you stay for several days, you can visit a floor or 2 per day.
  • Very nice museum. They have free entry when only standard exhibition is available. Coffee place is cosy and serves delicious cheesecake.

Where to stay in Luxembourg City

With 24 districts making up Luxembourg City, you might have a hard time choosing what neighborhood you like best. For starters, look at accommodations in Ville Haute, the medieval center, where you’ll be at the heart of the city and within walking distance to main attractions as well as public transportation. If stunning views are what you’re after, look into Ville Basse, a central neighborhood in the city’s gorge. Gare is also well-located, home to the city’s main train station as well as many lively restaurants and cafes filled with locals. Whether you stay in one of the city’s few hostels or a hotel, be prepared for high prices.
