History Museum Museum
Luxembourg City History Museum brings together the city's history and its future by building a modern museum inside of four restored historical houses. Beneath the street level, the permanent exhibit of the city's architectural and urban development is displayed chronologically. The upper floors host temporary exhibits with urban themes. Multimedia displays throughout the museum help you understand the cultural, political, and social changes in the city. These are enhanced by 60 different audiovisual elements that bring history back to life. Finally, view the city itself, riding in the elevator inside a floating glass section of the museum. The glass carriage gives you a view of the Grund district and the Rham plateau, as well as all the museum's floors. Visit the vaulted cellars beneath the city museum that were discovered 1990s for an extra treat. A Luxembourg City card gets you admission to the museum, but you can also buy a ticket on arrival. Where to stay in Luxembourg City

With 24 districts making up Luxembourg City, you might have a hard time choosing what neighborhood you like best. For starters, look at accommodations in Ville Haute, the medieval center, where you’ll be at the heart of the city and within walking distance to main attractions as well as public transportation. If stunning views are what you’re after, look into Ville Basse, a central neighborhood in the city’s gorge. Gare is also well-located, home to the city’s main train station as well as many lively restaurants and cafes filled with locals. Whether you stay in one of the city’s few hostels or a hotel, be prepared for high prices.

  • It's a good museum and you get an idea about Luxembourg city. The only thing they have no seats inside the rooms so after a while you get really tired standing up. No cafe either.  more »
  • This museum is great! It explains the history of the old town from the legends of Melusina and Sigfried, the foundation of the fortress in 963 and it's evolution till nowadays! It has great maquettes ...  more »
  • The museum is under renovation and so the only exhibit open is the football one which tbh is such a crying shame. Hopefully it will be completed soon so people can enjoy it.  more »

  • Even just experiencing the museum building from the insight is worth the entry money. And that's not yet taking into consideration the great and varied visualization of the city's and country's history.
  • Went to see the football hallelujah exhibition which was very interesting. Permanent exhibitions were closed for renovation.
  • The new permanent exhibition is worth the visit!
  • Really great experience, worth every dime.
  • Nice museum just close the Palais Gd.Ducal. Note : do not miss the main central elevator which I always found impressive in a such historic and rather small place.
