  • My son Chris mentioned that we could go over to the Luxembourg American Cemetery since it was only about 50 miles away from Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany. It was a good warm day in October with a blue sky and no clouds perfect. This is were General George S. Patton is interned and is at the front of the formation of crosses as he was as a commander. There are large stone walls that have the map of Europe and the units and progression of the allied movement. There is also a wall with the names of Americans in unknown graves. This is a place of reflection and walk among the perfectly aligned tombstones. We signed our names in the guest book and the director of the cemetery happen to be passing by when I had a short talk with about the gold markers on the wall with the names of the Americans. I asked if those are ones that they got identified and his response was "yes".
  • I visited as part of a tour and was very impressed with well maintained the cemetery is. The US government shows a high degree of respect for their soldiers. I was told that families had the choice of whether to have their fallen family members buried at home or in a foreign cemetery. The Luxembourg provides the land to the US as long as they maintain it and the US has committed to families that they will maintain the foreign cemeteries in perpetuity.
  • This is a cemetery where 5,075 service members lie in peace. It's also the resting place of George S. Patton Jr., General of the 3rd Army. The cemetery was established in 29 December 1944. A treaty signed in 1951 between the United States and Luxembourg allowed the U.S to use land for FREE for the cemetery. Visit the chapel if you get a moment while visiting. This is a place of silence and respect for those who lost their lives to save millions.
  • I had the opportunity to visit Luxembourg in 1992 while training in Heidelberg Germany after returning from Desert Storm with my unit of the Tennessee Army National Guard. This visit was the highlight of my military career. All The people I met still hold our military men and women in high regard. The cemetery was so beautiful.
  • Excellent experience. If you can get Jennifer to give you a tour go for it. She is amazing!!
