(4.2/5 based on 440+ reviews on the web)
Originally founded in 1579 by Jesuit monks, Vilnius University represents one of the oldest institutions of its kind in the region. Home to more than 20,000 students annually, the university bustles with activity; its network of buildings in the city center features several different architectural styles. You can visit the school and explore its urban campus, replete with richly decorated vaulted rooms and ornate statues, as well as the church of St. John, which you can climb for a panoramic view of the city. Join a guided tour, offered in English and several other languages, to learn more about the history of the university, the library, and its research. Don't miss stopping by the university bookstore, which, in addition to its host of college-themed souvenirs and books, is one of the most colorful and lavishly painted rooms in the city. • in fact there is not much to see, otherwise the courses and the library maybe. It pays and it's not really worth...

  • Once in the Centre of Vilnius's old town, not to be missed is a place seemingly do not typically travel as the University. Founded in the year 1579, is a complex of buildings connected by a small cosy courtyards and arcades. The University has its own church and Bell Tower, which offers sweeping views of the city. It is also worth a peek at the University Bookstore and the Hall about Baltic Depatment Chair, where you can admire the wonderful murals.

  • We found it easier to go with a guide as the area is huge and many courtyards to visit and there were many storys to tell.  more »

  • The building has a magnificent architecture. University founded in 1579 is oldest university in the Baltic States. The university enjoys a unique academic atmosphere and academic freedom.
  • Best is professionalism and transparent management. Famous university of Vilnius.
  • Go when the students go and you don't have to pay. It reminded me of a smaller version of Cambridge.
  • A very nice building, it should be a museum
  • Beautiful place for sight seeing
