Vilnius Old Town, Vilnius

(4.7/5 based on 3,600+ reviews on the web)
Home to winding medieval streets, defensive walls, ornate Baroque churches, and a host of historical buildings, Vilnius Old Town has earned World Heritage Site status with its extensive and well-preserved mixture of architectural styles. The area has origins in the 13th century and became the capital of the powerful Grand Duchy of Lithuania during the 1300s. Enter through the old fortified gate and stroll down the hill to the main square and town hall, and then onward to the base of the castle-topped hill. As you wander the cobbled streets past buildings of both brick and stone, consider ducking into one of the traditional Lithuanian restaurants or bars. Keep an eye out for some of the 40 churches in the city center, ranging from Catholic cathedrals with elegant interiors to domed Russian Orthodox temples. Make Vilnius Old Town a centerpiece of your Vilnius vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Vilnius vacation generator.

  • What to say about Vilnius? Here it is worth to come once a day at the 2-3, not more. For one or two days you just walk around all the sights. There is a possibility to go on excursions outside of Vilnius, here you may need another couple of days. Visit the national Lithuanian restaurants, food is very similar to ours, but with their notes. The city is very inexpensive compared to other European cities. Quiet and comfortable. I do not recommend to go in late autumn-with the weather can be very lucky not. High humidity and wind will make you a lover of sights in the guest Cafe and restaurants:)
