The Church of St Theresa, Vilnius

(4.8/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web)
The somewhat plain exterior of The Church of St Theresa belies the splendor of what's inside. Built by the Discalced Carmelite order in the 17th century, the church is one of the earliest Baroque buildings in Lithuania; its grand construction, using very expensive materials, is atypical for the monastic association. Today's interior was created by a local artist during the second half of the 18th century and links with the famous Gates of Dawn chapel. Inside the building, you can learn more about the church's namesake, St. Theresa, by studying the brightly colored frescoes that illustrate her life. Spend time admiring the high altar; it is considered one of the finest in the nation. • Different church for me, very Baroque. Under the entry there is a burial chamber containing examples of Baroque tombs. It is not always open.

  • This church is located on the right side of the passage once you enter the Gates of Dawn which is on the south part of Old Town.  more »
  • Beautiful baroque church with Polish touch. Always good for the lighting of candles and the mental shut down.
