Sts. Peter & Paul's Church (Sv. Apastalu Petro ir Povilo Baznycia), Vilnius

4.7
Considered perhaps the pinnacle of Baroque church architecture in Lithuania, Sts. Peter & Paul's Church (Sv. Apastalu Petro ir Povilo Baznycia) offers visitors the chance to see a wealth of ornate decoration and more than 2,000 carved stucco figures. Finished in 1701, the church and its grounds are ringed by a high wall and several smaller chapels. Enter the main basilica to see its brilliant white interior replete with reliefs, paintings, and columns. Wander inside and explore the different chapels, connected along the perimeter of the building with a series of aisles. Watch for the skeletal statue of Death, a grim reminder of mortality included by the designers of the church, placed among statues of Jesus and other religious figures. Make Sts. • From the station went in a little away from the city centre. It is ok if you Church bus stops located near the church so I should get off. Stuck in traffic jam trams, but it did not move, took longer than I thought. And when you arrive just in a mass. But I visited after the wait, just visit here was by teachers who want so. Inside beautiful sculptures in full white stucco decoration. Have visited the door closing sound. Apparently after the mass seems to close immediately and could not tour much. Is the Church was seen a bit more slowly.

  • I've seen many churches around Europe and to be honest didn't expect this one to be as impressive as it was. Definitely worth visiting, the interior is amazing  more »

  • Beautiful church. The work they put in to this building and many of the other churches in Vilnius is astounding. I have no idea how they could build all this in one place without sparking a religious war, but I aim to find out
  • If I remember correclty, theres a box where you can drop a coin and it makes lights turn on. So that is interesting
  • One of the most exquisite Baroque churches in Europe, totally worth a visit! A small tip: don't go during mass, unless you would like to sit and listen, as you won't be able to walk around freely and pay attention to all the marvellous details.
  • If fancy walking a decent distance and envoy churches, it's quite a nice place to visit
  • The church is beautiful, BUT it is amassed by hoardes of tour groups who come in to this sacred place and treat it as some museum with disregard for people praying. They are loud and obtrusive and on top of this they leave no donations. This is not a park. It is a place of worship. Please Lithuania show some respect. The church needs to be more active in restraining the groups and having them follow rules. Unfortunate.
