The deep-red Stebuklas tile marks the southernmost point of an estimated 2 million-person chain that served as a peaceful protest against Soviet occupation, coined the Baltic Way. The 676 km (420 mi) human chain was formed on August 23, 1989, and stretched through Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania to link their capitals. Today, the tile is intended to be a symbol of hope--the word stebuklas means "miracle." You can make a wish by stepping onto the tile, closing your eyes, thinking about your wish, and spinning in a circle three times. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Vilnius holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Stebuklas and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.
