Holocaust Museum (The Green House), Vilnius
Categories: History Museums, Museums
One of the centers of the Vilna Gaon State Jewish Museum, Holocaust Museum (The Green House) represents the Holocaust as experienced in Lithuania. Exhibits tell the story of the genocide of Lithuanian Jews during World War II, which saw their number fall from 240,000 in 1941 (including refugees from Poland) to just 10,000 in 1945. Learn about the killing squads, concentration camps, and ghettos rife with disease and starvation that caused this stark decline in population. The exhibit also provides information about those who collaborated with the Nazis and those who risked their lives to help the persecuted. Historical documents, photographs, diaries, and letters on display give personal insights into this tragedy.
