Gediminas Tower, Vilnius

4.4
#1 of 102 in Museums in Lithuania
Perched atop a hill on the site of a medieval castle, Gediminas Tower today offers both sweeping views of Vilnius and represents one of the city's (and the country's) most enduring symbols. Originally a part of a 15th-century brick fortress, the tower's current iteration is the result of a reconstruction in 1930. Wander the path from the base of the hill to the tower and be rewarded with panoramic views of Vilnius' old and new areas, as well as the surrounding hills. Climb to the top of the structure for completely unobstructed views. Be sure to take a look at the small archaeological and historical exhibitions within, detailing the origins and history of the tower, as well as Lithuania's split from the Soviet Union in 1990. • At the time of writing reviews the whole mountain. And so, here once the Vilnia River began. According to legend, Prince Gedemin was here on hunting. And at night he had steel Wolf howled. The Prince spoke about his dream sorcerer, and the interpreted is a sign, it is necessary to build a city! The Vilnia River-new capital where knjazheckij stood on the mountain Castle. Now from him ostalas Tower, in which a part of the National Museum. Beautiful mountain views of the entire city.

  • Very nice to see, unfortunately came up. Possible it is closed in the winter, but still worth a look to see

  • Must-see place in Vilnius. Great panorama to Vilnius. During time of the visit, exhibition inside was very poor (close to none), mountain undergoes repairs due to recent landslide danger.
  • Stunning view but the castle itself is not very interesting
  • Fantastic view on the roofs of old Vilnius. Hard to climb over there, but it looks like they are building elevator. I suggest morning hours to visit. No wc and no water found..
  • Impressive view of Vilnius. Closer and lower down than Three Crosses but still worth visiting for a different perspective.
  • Great views over the historic Lithuanian capital which once exerted influence all the way south to the Black Sea.
