Gediminas Tower, Vilnius

4.4
Perched atop a hill on the site of a medieval castle, Gediminas Tower today offers both sweeping views of Vilnius and represents one of the city's (and the country's) most enduring symbols. Originally a part of a 15th-century brick fortress, the tower's current iteration is the result of a reconstruction in 1930. Wander the path from the base of the hill to the tower and be rewarded with panoramic views of Vilnius' old and new areas, as well as the surrounding hills. Climb to the top of the structure for completely unobstructed views. Be sure to take a look at the small archaeological and historical exhibitions within, detailing the origins and history of the tower, as well as Lithuania's split from the Soviet Union in 1990. • There's a nice view from the top of the tower. It would be nice if the path up to the top of the hill had some lighting, though.  more »
  • A good view of the city. Definitely worth a visit. Open only one lifting from the back side, apparently because of the dangers of landslides. Hill himself makes depressing impression: film, sand bags and creepy ravines-the result of cutting down all the trees on the slopes of the Hill.

  • Please send help. The hill has collpsed on me and I'm trapped under the rubble for two days now. Getting really thirsty and hungry. I'm out of rats by now.  more »

  • Nice view from the top but 5 Euros the entrance is too much for what you get. So for free just climb the hill. Warning the start of the climbing isn't from where Google show you, is from behind next to the river.
  • A very nice viewpoints, as it is one of the few higher grounds in Vilnius. The tower itself is nice, but honestly for a museum quite empty? Price for adults is €5, students/seniors €2 and I don't feel like it's worth it. But what you get for free is definitely worth the short climb.
  • And old fort in the center of the town. Offers a good walk up for those who like a light hike, or a tram that goes to the top for those less mobile. Views from the top of the fort are nice. Go up the tower for even greater views of the city. The area around is a park that also is nice to walk around in.
  • Great place with interesting history. Fantastic view on Vilnius. Should be in a hurry to visiting it, because the hill is eroding and no one knows for how long the tower will stand.
  • Nice view. The tower visit is way to expensive (5eur) so we didn't bother. Worth going up here just for the view (which is free).
