Gediminas Tower, Vilnius
(4.5/5 based on 2,400+ reviews on the web)
Perched atop a hill on the site of a medieval castle, Gediminas Tower today offers both sweeping views of Vilnius and represents one of the city's (and the country's) most enduring symbols. Originally a part of a 15th-century brick fortress, the tower's current iteration is the result of a reconstruction in 1930. Wander the path from the base of the hill to the tower and be rewarded with panoramic views of Vilnius' old and new areas, as well as the surrounding hills. Climb to the top of the structure for completely unobstructed views. Be sure to take a look at the small archaeological and historical exhibitions within, detailing the origins and history of the tower, as well as Lithuania's split from the Soviet Union in 1990. A visit to Gediminas Tower represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Vilnius tourist route planner to plot your vacation.

  • Walked up the hill after visiting the cathedral and walking past the monument. Walking up the hill may be hard for some but would be easy for most people if you take this route. Getting to the top is ...  more »
  • As regards the part of the Museum not has great thing. It does deserve to pay mostly for the panoramic view. They are three interior floors and an outdoor terrace

  • We walked to the top in a heavy snowstorm, which only added to the magical feel about the place. The views from the top were wonderful, and worth the climb up the steep side!

  • A nice hike if one does not take the funicular! There is no need, unless there is a condition preventing a steep hike. Beautiful view of Vilnius, though I personally did not go inside the castle, nor to the top of the castle itself. I got a few cool pictures, until someone yelled at me to get down! Otherwise, it was a nice, iconic, touristy view of the city.
  • Very nice view from all sides) entrance in tower 5€, many people just walk around. Hight of tower 25m, view same. If U want "feel past" maybe it will be usefull spent money)) elivator was not work (1 kids and 2 euro), 2 ways up/down by feet. I used both, for different, but it was not so big dif...))
  • Most interesting is the observing deck on top of building, otherwise the exhibition is pretty small - and they don't tell you this at entrance. So be sure to go to the top! The circular ladder to the top is pretty narrow and steep, be carefull.
  • The #1 thing to do in Vilnus: climb the Gediminas tower at sunset and enjoy the view.
  • Gedimas hill have good views. Entrance fee for that little tower is quite expensive 4 euros! If you climbing up to hill take with you water( or beer) because you cannot buy it anywhere nearby
