Cathedral (Arkikatedra Bazilika), Vilnius
Categories: Monuments, Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Cathedral (Arkikatedra Bazilika) represents the center of Catholic faith in Lithuania and serves as one of Vilnius' most notable buildings, particularly since it is also the resting place of the country's patron saint, St. Casimir. Built in 1783, the cathedral underwent a period of renewal after Lithuania's independence and nowadays has been restored to its former glory. Its entrance, complete with massive columns, statues, and a tower, dominates the surrounding square. Explore the cavernous interior of the church, decorated with carved-stonework ceilings, moldings, and murals. View the metal tomb of St. Casimir, one of the centerpieces of the structure. Don't miss the chance to visit the underground chapels, dedicated to different figures and a site of worship dating back further than the building itself. Here you have the opportunity to see the oldest surviving fresco in Lithuania. Kom till katedralen som var nästan fullsatt. Mycket vacker körsång till orgeln. Vi njöt till fullo. Mycket stämningsfullt i denna vackra miljö.Came to the Cathedral, which was almost full. Very beautiful choral singing to the organ. We enjoyed to the fullest. Very atmospheric in this beautiful environment.show original
Located in the city centre. Nicely located on a big square. A big cathedral, most impressive on the outside. But a must see in Vilnius
Located fairly central in the city it is worth a visit. Does not take long to walk through but it is a lovely church.
Spectacular, majestic buildings, large open space. A must visit. The great walk to the Gediminas tower start from here. Also there is a hidden, but public funicular that takes you up for a small price.

A landmark of Vilnius, hard to miss. Looks big and it is nice in the inside. Bell tower at a distance from the church which is uncommon. Spend a few minutes to visit it.

It is amazing here, a must visit if you are in the city
Great thing. I've never been to it though. Just Gediminas' Castle. I passed it when I went close to the bell tower.
Nice cathedral, unfortunately not many so nice churches like this one in Vilnius.
