Cathedral (Arkikatedra Bazilika), Vilnius
(4.4/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
Cathedral (Arkikatedra Bazilika) represents the center of Catholic faith in Lithuania and serves as one of Vilnius' most notable buildings, particularly since it is also the resting place of the country's patron saint, St. Casimir. Built in 1783, the cathedral underwent a period of renewal after Lithuania's independence and nowadays has been restored to its former glory. Its entrance, complete with massive columns, statues, and a tower, dominates the surrounding square. Explore the cavernous interior of the church, decorated with carved-stonework ceilings, moldings, and murals. View the metal tomb of St. Casimir, one of the centerpieces of the structure. Don't miss the chance to visit the underground chapels, dedicated to different figures and a site of worship dating back further than the building itself. Here you have the opportunity to see the oldest surviving fresco in Lithuania. • Seen from the outside on a winter evening. The look is nice especially is well inserted in a large square which underlines the grandeur.

  • Surprisingly, in Vilnius is such a large number of very notable churches, even sophisticated taste and many kind of traveler. Cathedral of St. Stanislaus and St. Vladislav-the cherry on the cake, don't even expect a large-scale attraction. That would be noted. Quite an impressive façade in the style of classicism, the main façade, with six columns, above it is a triangular pediment surmounted by three statues-St. Stanisław, Kazimierz and Helena (modern sculptures, replacing the destroyed in the years of Soviet power). The lateral facades are also decorated with numerous sculptures in Baroque style on biblical themes, as well as figures of Lithuanian Princes and representatives of the Jesuit order. In General, here is something to look at, especially if you pay attention to detail. And at the same time read about all deserve attention. Inside-not less than impressive atmosphere in the style of classicism. Separately, you can recommend to pay attention to the Chapel (11 of them), especially at the chapel of St. Kazimierz, where is the sarcophagus with the remains of the patron saint of the city. The entrance to the Cathedral is free. If you want to get into the crypt or in the belfry (located separately), these visits will be paid. Recommend to visit Cathedral, in view of the magnitude of the spectacle will include it in your personal TOP 3 attractions.

  • Beautiful exterior, more simply wonderful. The belfry in front makes the structure a deal imposing. Council at Christmas time because in the same square set up a beautiful tree and flea markets!

  • Very nice and solemn place. This is one of the places where you can light a candle and you don't get the feeling that you are being ripped off by it's price. A candle only costs €0.15. Very fair priced.
  • A landmark in Vilnius. Beautiful church both inside and outside. You won't miss it.
  • Excellent place for your cathedral visit. It is a 13th century architecture by king Midaugas- so nearly 800 year old building! And this the biggest and main Roman Catholic cathedral in Vilnius. There is a Bell tower, beautifully designed, and kept separated from the cathedral building. Easy access to public transport and free to access the premises. Many people of all ages come for various activities- some just sit and watch others.. While others ride skate board, sagway, and many nice sports. Mass is open to attend and you can enjoy the concert if you get the lucky date.
  • A neoclassical beautiful church. A jewel in the middle of Vilnius' old town.
  • Great tourist area. Gediminas or saint john's church tower offer great views
