Trakai Castle, Trakai
(4.7/5 based on 1,500+ reviews on the web)
The erstwhile political epicenter of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Trakai Castle today provides a striking example of an island fortress in Europe and remains one of the country's most famous symbols. Built in several stages beginning in the 14th century, the castle fell into ruin during the 1600s; however, a major push after World War II led to its complete restoration. Cross the wooden bridge to access the castle and its massive defensive towers and gate, situated on a tiny islet just offshore from its namesake town. Within the walls lies yet another fortified bastion. Wander its multiple floors and view exhibitions displaying medieval artifacts, armor, and weapons. The site documents both the history of the castle and its role in the nation's past. Be sure to stop by the grand hall, where rulers such as national hero Vytautas held feasts and state meetings. Our Trakai tourist route planner makes visiting Trakai Castle and other Trakai attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • At the entrance to Trakaju the clouds dissipated and peeking out the dazzling sun! It was a pleasant start and added positive emotions November morning. An impressive castle from the first moment. Fascinated with the beauty and plunges into the atmosphere of old times. The feeling that by proskachut Knights on horseback. Entrance to the Castle 6 euros for adults and 3 for children. Located inside the exhibit with artifacts and furnishings of the castle itself, as well as Museum of Lithuania. The place is popular among tourists and inside a large number of excursions in different languages. After the release, you can take a walk around the Castle, located on an island, and you can ride on a yacht and explore the Castle from the perspective of 360 deg. We asked for 5 euros each in the company of five people, but we were forced to cancel due to the fact that froze. The only thing that marred the impressions of the day, it's fine for parking in a Euro 11, issued after a 10-minute delay. Recommend not on municipal parking lot for 1 euro per hour, and in the private sector for Euro 2 unlimited, especially if you want to have dinner after a stroll through the Castle.

  • Visited in November 2016 onwards. It was interesting and child (8 years old) and adults. From Vilnius, in addition to the car, can be reached by train or by bus (journey time approximately 30 minutes). To the castle itself really need to go, we have the road took 20 minutes. The castle itself interesting enough, excellent exposure (armor, ceramics, glass, urasheniya!)-all very nicely. They wanted to shoot a crossbow-but there was no such service, it might be seasonal. I think that if you come during the event-the impressions will be even brighter. Belarusians with such locks are familiar-Mirsky, Lida Castle-similar to Trakai. But still I wonder, Yes, and the place is very beautiful.

  • The visit is worth the day. In addition to Trakai Castle and its Museum are interesting to visit, should not hesitate to rent a boat and take a ride on the Lake to the oar and why not bathe for the more adventurous!

  • Nice medium size medieval castle placed on an island. Well maintained, almost every room is fully equipped with items from that particular period. The island is also nice, one can easily walk around it or take a boat to sail the lake. Unfortunately it seems there is no good place to eat around it, or at least we were not able to find one.
  • Wonderfull place and wonderfull castle of the Teutonic Order, if you go to Lithuania you must visit it, not far from Vilna
  • Castle was a great sight reflecting across the lake. The exhibits and shows inside are pretty good, with lots of information and english translations. It can be very busy in the upper castle rooms as the tour groups push past, but it's still a very nice place to visit
  • Very beautiful place and reach of history, we took a guided tour (only 15€ for a group of up to 20 tourist, available on many languages) which is very informative and interesting. Definitely recommended.
  • Beautiful castle. Lots of interesting exhibitions inside.
