Lithuanian Sea Museum, Klaipeda

4.3
#2 of 9 in Museums in Klaipeda County
Set in a restored 19th-century fort, Lithuanian Sea Museum and its onsite aquarium explores humans' relationship with the ocean and the life of marine animals. In rooms that were once gunpowder storage cellars, visitors can admire ship models and archaeological artifacts accompanied by informational displays about Lithuanian seafaring. Exhibits on the history of marine life tackle subjects such as evolution, the fauna of the sea, and dangerous ocean creatures, both real and legendary. At the aquarium, you can meet a diverse array of fish including freshwater species, creatures from the Baltic Sea, and tropics dwellers. Outdoor pools are home to seals, sea lions, and penguins, and the adjoining dolphinarium hosts dolphin shows. Check for show times when you arrive. A fantastic place to visit with children. The little ones at the sight of a dolphins until the Squeak of joy ... Adults also were thrilled. Tickets I advise you to buy over the Internet and print saves is standing in a long queue and will provide space for trubunach. Any get to the Dolphinarium, you must buy a ferry ticket (return ticket). Really worth it!

A world-class museum. Not boring, not boring, not sonlivyj. It is interesting to adults and children. Informative, interactive, positive!

We were already in the Dolphinarium, this time visited the show with seals and Museum. Near the Museum there are animals-penguins (such a cute sitting pose))), walruses, seals) children liked it) the museum itself interesting, plenty of exhibits of ships and different compositions, there are interactive pieces (the layout of the vessel, games). a lot of people. Part of the exhibition is still closed. Shows great! The children laughed and adults too) Dynamically animated all Super! A lot of people, free seating, but seen everywhere good. Yet visited on the way to the fishing village of composition and ships. On one of the ships you can climb, descend into the hold there. ... and there enjoy the Soviet paraphernalia))) total: All with children necessarily to visit!

Modest exhibition of various marine historical artefacts and small ship models. There are few interactve items. Unfortunatelly, at the moment (2017 summer) aquarium is still closed for reconstruction. You still can see penguins, seals and sea lions in outside pools. There is still a lot of room for improvement, but keep up the good work!

Great sea museum and a dolphinarium nearby.

Unfortunately it is not very interesting + very dated It may be that as a child I was spoilt for choice in Australia with Sea World on the Gold Coast and other places like this - but I really did not get any enjoyment out of this "sea museum". There some interesting facts and figures but the facility was very old and the animals (for the most) did not seem very happy. I would not recommend a visit unless you have children that you need to entertain for an afternoon - as the kids seemed to enjoy the shows and animals.

Where to stay in Klaipeda

The seaside city of Klaipeda boasts many funky yet reasonably priced hotels. Most cluster in the city center, but others, farther out, may have the advantage of sea views. For a slightly less expensive option, choose one of the city's hostels; most place you right in the thick of things. While guesthouses here are somewhat less popular compared with other Lithuanian cities, they remain the least expensive lodging in town and can provide an authentic local experience. As with other Lithuanian towns, you can opt to stay in a tent or camper at a campsite just a bit outside of town. Campsites also offer hostel-style accommodations.
