Inspirock Rating:
4.7/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web
Originally constructed as part of the Kaunas Fortress, Ninth Fort now serves as a museum dedicated to the atrocities committed here during the Soviet and Nazi occupations, and to its past role as an important stronghold. The building of the fort began in 1902 and was not completed until the night before the outbreak of World War I. Throughout the Soviet period of 1940 to 1941, the fort was used to house political prisoners before shipping them off to Siberia. During the Holocaust, it served as a place of mass murder, with over 30,000 Jews and 10,000 foreigners being executed here, in what came to be known as the Kaunas Massacre. Visit the memorial located on the grounds and pay your respects to the victims who died here. Learn more about the events that took place in the fort through the museum exhibits, displaying artifacts and historical records. • One of the worst places on earth a human can visit - and most of it was with the help of the local Lithuanian population who gladly gave their help in killing and raping the Jewish population who used to employ them and even neighbours would shoot good friends - the Germans ym"s only started the mass killing later on as the first few month was only sporadic killings with outbreaks of mass murder from time to time - the aktzion being all and mostly done by the Lithuanian population!!! Shame on them for being quiet Shame on them for eternity Shame on them until they repent May god protect the nation of his choosing Who love life and respect life and don't rape - steal - murder etc. May god bless us all
  • Please remember the 10000 Jewish people that were massacred, and some buried alive here on 28 Oct 1941.
