Kaunas Castle, Kaunas

Categories: Castles, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
3.5/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web
Located at the edge of old town Kaunas, Kaunas Castle represents a Gothic-style castle thought to have been built during the mid-14th century. The castle served as a strategic military outpost that guarded nearby cities and the roads between important trade routes. By the start of the 21st century, only approximately a third of the original castle remained intact. It was renovated in 2011, but some of the original walls remain. Climb the stairs to the upper levels for expansive views of the surrounding town and scenery. You can walk within the walls for free, or pay to go into the round tower where you'll find an art gallery. See Kaunas Castle and all Kaunas has to offer by arranging your trip with our Kaunas vacation builder.

  • Very beautiful and tidy enviroment. Nice exposition. A very nice place for a walk or a picnic
  • Wonderfull place in Kaunas, surrounded by river and grassy lawn where you can lie all day long
  • I love this place, I cannot believe I lived here long and never visited, glad finally did
  • Might be interesting but not ready for tourist attraction to my eyes.
  • The Castle of Kaunas is a beautiful site! The area surrounding it is beautifully landscaped. Within the area there are outdoor exersize machines!! Its really quite something! The castle is built partly of red bricks and stone, it stands out really well against the back set of the old town. Ill say one thing, when it comes to castles This castle is first mentioned during the reign of Grand Duke Gediminas of Lithuania. If your into history, then I recommend you visit this castle, (including others around Lithuania) they are really interesting!
