Grutas Park, Druskininkai

4.1
#3 of 13 in Things to do in Druskininkai
Nature / Park
At Grutas Park, walk through a recreated Soviet prison camp and view Communist-era statues and relics to learn more about this period in Lithuania's past. The park got its start after the country gained its independence in 1990, when many Soviet statues were removed and dumped in various places. The founder aimed to bring these statues together in one place, and founded an attraction revolving around this history that still remains controversial today. The 86 statues are organized into groupings, such as the Totalitarian Sphere and the Terror Sphere, featuring major Communist leaders from Lithuania and other countries. Notice the barbed wire, guard towers, and the train car used to transport people to Gulags. You can take a tour to receive more in-depth information on each statue and exhibit. There is also a mini zoo located on the property and a cafe that serves Soviet food. Plan to visit Grutas Park during your Druskininkai vacation using our convenient Druskininkai itinerary maker.

  • The Park collected a legacy of Communist times as monuments, sculptures, mosaics, stained-glass Windows and only just. Objects are located on the perimeter of the Park, around the moat Park, tower guard, both in the camps. Of course, a lot of Leninyh, Stalinyh, very much Soviet leaders of Lithuanian descent, until then unknown to us. In General, can understand peoples trapped under the influence of the USSR may go to Europe now they would be much more developed countries. And maybe not. Lithuanians-good luck!

  • From a historical perspective, this an interesting collection of statues, artefacts, and some surviving buildings. However, it is understandable why people in the area are not happy with Grutas Park, ...  more »
  • Very unusual and wonderful place in all respects. Located on the road to Druskininkai in close proximity to the resort. The collected many interesting exhibits from the Soviet period of Lithuanian history. Many interesting statues and a collection of weapons, such as guns and mortar. Just as a police car, car caboose, outdoor kitchen, soda machine and much more. The territory operates a café with Soviet dishes on the menu. Oficianki dressed in the likeness of the pioneer of the form. Work by the way slowly and dishes bring in a bizarre sequence. Interior in ALA Soviet style. On the territory of bred various animals.

Where to stay in Druskininkai

To fully experience Druskininkai's famous spa culture, stay in one of its spa-hotel hybrids. You can still easily visit surrounding spas but pay less by staying at hotels in or near the city center. If spa-going isn't a priority, consider budget-friendly options outside of the center and toward the Soviet sculpture park, another attraction in the area.
