Burg Gutenberg, Balzers

See the medieval Burg Gutenberg, where archeological digs have uncovered the 12 cm (5 in) Mars von Gutenberg figurine. The hillside has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. The castle is perched on a hill about 70 m (230 ft) above the nearby village. Park at the foot of the hill, and climb a path that leads through vineyards up to the castle. The short walk provides views of the neighboring countryside and castle ruins. You can visit the castle's chapel and its rose garden. The bailey is open throughout the year, but the castle interior is closed for visitors. Guided tours need to be scheduled in advance. • There is parking at the bottom of the hill, the walk isnt bad but once you are up there, its fun to imagine how people made it in 1200s  more »
  • Above the Balzers castle towers. the courtyard is accessible all year round and a rose garden with a chapel. To the castle for a tour you get only 3 times a year and you need to keep track of the Web sites of the city. Tours are in German only, but it is interesting to go through the Castle. There are nice views of the Rhine and the other guard castles.

  • Nice little stopover to see the castle while driving from Neuschwanstein Castle to Lauterbrunnen. I don't believe the castle was open. Very poor signage from the road. We stopped at the church next to...  more »
  • Beautiful place, it was a bit of a challenge finding the route (no signs (that we could understand) showing the way). When we got there, the Castle was closed. I guess our visit was out of season? Not sure, but as a monolingual English speaker, we simply knew the castle wasn't open today. Otherwise, the view from the top was gorgeous!
  • It is a good place to visit but you need to arrange your visit proper if you need to visit inside Schloss. Very well preserved place. The town is very proud of its Schloss. There is a little hiking trail from the Schloss to the church below at the village. Beautiful!
  • Didn't get to go inside but had a beautiful little walk around the outside. Looks like u could do some longer hikes from here.
  • Great courtyard to relax and take in the view of the mountains
  • Interesting castle with also interesting history. The castle had also very bad period of him history when was all areal in ruins situation. But after all areal bought Egon Rheinberger architect from Austria. Which was interested of beauty that castle and landscape around as me. And all areal and the castle reconstructed. In him testament let all areal for peoples in town. So today is owner Balzers town. The courtyard is open for visitors every day in tourist season from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. The castle's chapel and rose garden only in summer. But for excursion inside the castle is important ask the town hall.
