Memoire Du Temps, Byblos

(4.6/5 based on 60+ reviews on the web)
A trip to Memoire Du Temps allows you to see first-hand why Lebanon is considered the country with the largest collection of fish fossils in the world. What started as the fascination of one man, some 80 years ago, turned into a family business over time, and eventually became an important record of the country’s cultural and historical heritage. Explore the family museum to inspect numerous displays of different fossilized sea creatures found in the vicinity of Byblos. You can take a tour led by one of the brothers who own the place; they'll tell you the story of how their grandfather's passion was sparked by his discovery of a single fossil, and how that passion led to him building the museum. If you're lucky, you can even join an occasional fossil search led by museum staff. Make Memoire Du Temps a part of your Byblos vacation plans using our Byblos trip builder.

  • A great stop in Byblos, it is like a walk-in fossil museum from Byblos. No entry fee, no obligation of buying, and the guide there is very helpful with his explanation.
  • The souk of Byblos, with its small craft shops, also contains little gems like this store of fossils, if you do not want to bring fans and collectors, or the usual souvenir made in China, the place is giusto.la choice is remarkable. From small shrimp in larger fish, which are found in some cave near Byblos. Prices range from $30 for small fossils, to thousands of euros for the most important pieces. To visit.
