#1 of 14 in Things to do in Sigulda
Walk along the castle ramparts and explore the elements of medieval building at Turaida Castle, which means "Thor's garden" in the language of the ancient inhabitants. The red-brick castle is a cultural landmark with a special protection status. Archbishop of Riga requested the building be constructed for an order of Crusaders in 1214. As you tour the building, you'll see the original surviving fragments of a defensive wall, the main tower, a semi-rounded tower, and the western section. Learn about the history and the restoration process at exhibits inside the restored buildings. You can climb the main tower for a view of the valley. Start directly with the city Sigulda, and close to the Castle. Before the town can easily be reached by bus or train a little more than an hour. I would advise the more comfortable, have tried both options. Very cozy town, green, calm, lazy to walk. And then perebiraetes in Turaida Castle. You can on a minibus or try catch "attempt". 5 Euro entrance and walk slowly across the territory, but it is not small. It is necessary to climb a tower, there are magnificent views. To more or less all of the show should be placed 2-3 hours of free time, and quietly, without fuss and get pleasure. For this it is better to go there alone, with excursion you just probezhites.

Nice view from tower. There were reconstructions in progress, but in general not the biggest impression.

Great information available however limited in English. Fun to walk around with family and small kids especially.
